It is secure that with a boot priority of 11 on DH0 I can finally boot the system or may I check the floppy cables too?

When you dont have any floppy or CD inserted during boot there should be no difference between boot priority 0 and 11, in both cases it will probably be the highest priority, except you have another partition with higher priority. Quote:
Is the twist part of the floppy cable the one that I may connect or is it the other part?

Sorry, dont remember right now, maybe the twist is for drive B: (oops, FD1: ). Any guide you'll find on the net how to do PC floppy drive cabling and jumpering should IMHO also apply to the AOne. The quick test to find out if the floppy causes problems is to detach the cable and switch on the machine :) |

Nothing happens changing the twist cable neither with a boot priority of 11 on DH0.
What should I do to make OS 4.0 Final bootable on my system?

Did u try to get to early startup menu? (after loading kickstart) An then to boot without starup-sequence?
Just a thought, Jack _________________

It is hard to verify this from the thread (too tired), but is there possibility that you're trying to load one release of os using the kickstart+modules from dfferent release?

Absolutely not because on the load bar it shows all the new modules I have installed and there is only one option to load not as the update 4 that it has 4 diferent versions of the same update so I think is well installed and maybe I have missed some point of the configuration.
I insist is there any guide to this installation on the net?

Removed comment, didn't read the whole thread
EDIT AGAIN: Have you done a clean install of OS4 final? Or are you keeping update 4 on the same partion when installing?

Answering my questions before asking more questions? I've asked Quote:
Can you enter bootmenu, boot without S-S, type "Set echo on" and "Execute S/Startup-Sequence"? If yes, where does it hang?

All right I don't know how to boot without S-S and the other things
I have reinstalled OS 4.0 Update#4 provisionally and I keep my eye on this thread to solve this question.
Thanks anyway. _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

| Hi Detlef @TetiSoft
Which bug?
Well, I saw that "0" stored as a boot priority in MTB got flipped around to -128. This bug in the early pre days may have been repaired. I don't now about the latest MTB version.
UBoot has a problem: when I installed Update#4, it would never bootup; it stayed in a black screen after modules loaded. Started looking at the Uboot/hardware/IDE/device settings real close. UD#4 was defaulting the drives to "automatic". Well, I changed all my devices to what they 'actually' where, that is, changed 'automatic' to 'harddrive' if the device was a HD; same for the others. Guess what that worked. So, you're the expert, what was difference, and did 'automatic' imply?? Final and July updates where no problem neither. Last edited by Snuffy on 03-Oct-2007 at 04:41 PM.

Update #4 does not boot automatically now,I have to type "boota" command.
Can anybody explain me the right steps to do the Final installation process?
I'm lost in the ice. _________________ AMIGA 500 1.5 MB ACA500/ACA1232 accelerators AMIGA 500 German CD32 unexpanded Amiga 1200 Tower on AmigaKit since years AMIGA 1300 030/50 Mhz/32 MB WB 3.9 with lots of games&demos AMIGA ONE XE G3 PPC 800 Mhz/1 GB RAM/RADEON 9250 128 MB/SATA CONTROLLER |

Check the UBoot menus. I think there is a place for 'boot command'
If not then
setenv bootcommand=boota setenv save
might work. I don't have my UBoot docs handy at the moment so I can't be sure._________________ 'unfixed' A1XE, 512mb RAM, plug-in USB card, Sil 0680 IDE card, Radeon 9250, built-in sound, OS4.1 update 5. |

Pressing Help (normally ScrollLock on a PC keybord) or both (L+R) mouse buttons during boot brings up bootmenu which lets you select the boot device for WB and allows to boot without S-S.
There also exists a shortcut for booting without S-S without entering bootmenu, thats the Ctrl key or the middle mouse button (often a clickable wheel on a PC mouse).

I'm a user of OS4.0 (micro A1), and I'm just wondering whether all of these handy shortcuts will be documented in one general AmigaGuide or some other means, and distributed with the OS (Preferably not as a contribution). That way, I could actually start remembering to use them. As it is now, I always use the reset button on the chassi to reset ;). I don't know the other shortcuts.
Thanks.
Best regards

You may want ro read Documentation/Kickstart/bootmenu.doc on the OS4Final CD when you want to know how to enter bootmenu.
You may want to read Documentation/Keyboards.doc on the OS4Final CD when you want to know how to hard/soft reboot the machine via keyboard.
You may want to read Documentation/C/Reboot.doc on the OS4Final CD when you want to know how the machine can be rebooted from shell or a shell script.
There also exists Documentation/Intuition/NewControls which explains intuition shortcuts.
There also exists LOCALE:Help//Sys/Workbench.guide which is displayed when pressing the Help key in Workbench. The latest published version of that file doesnt include all bootmenu, reset and intuition shortcuts yet, and doesnt explain that pressing Shift or Alt during boot skips executing the WBStartup programs. |

Many thanks for all these pointers, greatly appriciated.
Also, a chapter in the Workbench guide with these tips is a great idea. A simple list is better than no list at all. One other idea: How about adding a "Help" shortcut in the "File" menu, that would launch this particular guide. I'm not sure people knows about the Scroll Lock key is launching this guide. I don't see this as a particular difficult feature to add, but you may be swamped with other more important things to do.
Best Regards, Kotler |
