Not sure, reads like the install to HD doesn't change anything, same speed as DVD, while PS3 BD slower than DVD, and the PS3 install only makes it comparable...so, does seem odd, but ?
@Hammer Yes, it wasn't missed, but was just commenting on the link itself.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2008/10/22/nvidia-gpus-support-dx10-1-features-in-far-cry-2/1
Far Cry 2 uses "deferred rendering" i.e. refer to Killzone 2.
Other game engines such as Unreal Engine 3 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. uses "deferred shading".
As for going beyond DX3D and OpenGL APIs on desktop PCs with CUDA GPUs, refer to http://developer.nvidia.com/object/nvapi.html
"NVAPI is NVIDIA's core software development kit that allows direct access to NVIDIA GPUs and drivers on all windows platforms. NVAPI provides support for categories of operations that range beyond the scope of those found in familiar graphics APIs such as DirectX and OpenGL."
Note how FarCry 2 access CUDA GPU's DX10.1 features. Far Cry 2 PC is another "The Way It's Meant To Be Played" title. Last edited by Hammer on 22-Feb-2009 at 11:07 AM.

Your post makes me think that IMHO Sony and Microsoft started a kind of war they can't hope to win, the war for the most technically advanced piece of HW to play a videogame with. That's because PC technology gows with a speed that no one can hope to keep up with, figure out with a static hardware design that a console is! Yes PS3 and XBox360 could have been the most evolved gaming platform in the months when they came out but they are by now both surpassed by PC.
Nintendo made a very wise choice in developing the Wii as it is: it is clear that it's weapon is not the GFX - computing power brute force but the way games are meant to be played on it. This choice shifts the balance of expectations and aims when one thinks I want to paly/develop a game on Wii.

There are plenty who think Killzone 2 looks much better than this mod (a vast majority it seems, on non-crysis related forums), me included. You easily notice far a lack of light sources, weaker character animation and of course things like no realtime ragdol overlay for hit response or far less impressive blood, etc.
It's just a mod (not a full game or anything), trying to make Crysis look like Killzone 2, but there are far too many technical differences. You will unlikely ever see the sheer amount of polishment regarding level design, surround sound or damage physics in mods like these.
Why all the negativity towards this game? |

I don't think it's negativity, it's being subjective. Some are claiming KZ2 and PS3 have better graphics than modern PCs, while most believe (and have given screenshots to prove) it's untrue.

Screenshots don't tell the whole story. For example many 90s PC game screenshots looked great, but the games often weren't at all that great looking in motion.
IMO Killzone 2 is really the sort of game which needs to be experienced with a good multi-media setup to judge it (Large HDTV and good surround sound setup).
Yes, Killzone 2 is the best looking FPS I have ever seen including more pretty than Crysis, but a lot of this has to do with developer efford. I have already played parts of the game, tomorrow though I will be getting my own special edition copy! ![](https://amigaworld.net/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif) Last edited by MikeB on 23-Feb-2009 at 08:29 PM.

Sure, but graphics != gameplay. Two different subjects.
From still shots, it's obvious Crysis > KZ2, thus modern PC > PS3, at least in still graphics quality.
There may be arguments over amount of moving objects, or certain effects, or of course gameplay, but the above is the case for *still* images at least.
PS - when is launch day? I have launch day delivery anyways...I HOPE it's not before Friday, or gonna go nuts in a hectic work week ![](https://amigaworld.net/images/smilies/icon_frown.gif)

The free mod is an alpha build. Crytek concentrated on a nature simulator.Last edited by Hammer on 23-Feb-2009 at 10:44 PM.

Graphics is everything you see, it cannot be fully judged by comparin stills, not by a long shot even.
For example, look at a still image from the following and it IMO doesn't look that special, but in motion IMO it's awesome:
http://i42.tinypic.com/deqwia.jpg
Well beyond what I've seen from Crysis regarding death sequences.

It's pre-recorded rag-doll animation, it has nothing to do with graphics rendering i.e. real life vs real time rendered graphics.
There was an updated for Crysis's "Time of Day" art. http://www.incrysis.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=768

On workloads that count i.e. gaming, Geforce 8800 GTX (November 8, 2006) was released a few days a head of Sony’s PS3 (November 11, 2006 in Japan). _________________ Ryzen 9 7900X, DDR5-6000 64 GB RAM, GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB Amiga 1200 (Rev 1D1, KS 3.2, PiStorm32lite/RPi 4B 4GB/Emu68) Amiga 500 (Rev 6A ECS, KS 3.2, PiStorm/RPi 3A+/Emu68) |

It's a combination pre-defined and realtime. Unlike with most other games there are endless different death scenes in Killzone 2.
Regarding Street Fighter 4, it's interesting the PS3 version outperforms the 360 version in the UK. Within Europe, the UK is the 360's strongest performing market and like for the rest of Europe had a 1 year and 5 months sales headstart. |

Now the question remains: which version will have legs. Amazing how Wii software is still dominating the charts...and 3rd party at that. Don't forget to notice the kiddie title at #15 for the Wii. Those 7-year olds really know how to shop... |

Call of Duty:WaW Wii version has outsold the PS3 version in the US atleast.
World at War features some pretty good graphics "for a Wii game" and I guess some people prefer the enhanced play controls over uber-definition... Who would have thunk it? |

Enhanced game controls using the Wii-mote. I don't think so. IMO it's mostly a good fit for party games and not so much for most more traditional games.
I changed the default control scheme to match those of Resistance 2 though. |
