@Bobsonsirjonny
It's entirely up to you. I'd obviously prefer it to go to JAmiga, as they are _trying_ to start with OS4 support, but it's tough to do without a system. I can't speak for them, as they'r eon they're own schedule, but if there were a 'top 5 projects' that are worth (IMHO) donating $, buying a system for, whatever....Java for Amiga would be in them.

I'd gladly pay shipping, with insurance...I've got a message out to Peter to see if it would help, as I obviously can't speak for them either, but I can't really see them _not_ wanting to have a 'real' box with OS4 on it for their development.

I sent you an IM, I'll send another now with my email so can discuss via email if you'd like.

@wegster/others

Hi guys,

thank you very much for considering us for a rented A1. I have already posted on our forum:

----- snip -----
About the A1 "to borrow": I have read some things on aw.net. I'm not feeling very comfortable about this, as it has quite a couple of implications: What happens if I break it, if it gets lost in the mail.... Additionally, I can only ever work on one computer at a time. As a *lot* of things are still missing, just *having* an A1 wouldn't speed development time up. What *would* speed it up is, if people compiled the stuff, changed code while/as they do and let me know :) (Apart from the fact that my wife'd kill me if I put up yet another computer ;) )

The *good* news for all A1 owners may be that another JAmiga developer actually *owns* one. The problem is that it seems to have heat problems as it ceases to work after running for a few minutes. He's planning to have it repaired soon, so there might be some more OS4 output soon.
----- /snip -----

So why - on one hand - I would love to get a nice A1 (and I am saving towards it already), I don't think it will boost development time, as most of the development that needs to be done can be done on my existing systems and will run with no change on an A1.
The sole problem with OS4 a.t.m. is the different infrastructure with libraries. Once that is sorted, it'll compile out of the box for OS4, MOS & classic.

So in your case, I'd consider giving the box to someone who has no alternative development system at hand and who lives close to you :)

Regards,

Peter

@Inferno
Thanks PEter for joining in...I dn't like 'tryng to' speak for anyone else, but was hoping it might have been of us to you. As it is, Bobson has yet to respond to IMs, so I'm guessing somethign else is going on there...?

@Bobsonsirjonny

How about Fishy_Fis ?

We know he's coding a "Brilliance" clone and wanted an A1 to code on.

Haven't seen him around for a bit though...

A very nice gesture indeed Bobson.

@wegster
Great offer to pay for shipping insurance etc. The great Amiga community at work.

I' m sure this will work out for the best.

@Bobsonsirjonny

I`ll rent it for 20 a month, how`s that?

Am I allowed to format the hd though?

Renting at $20/month is reasonable. Formatting HD isn't typically included in rental agreements; you should check with your provider first.
