Hi All,

Deremon just shared a first build of Amiberry for 64-bit AROS. It bring a modern, up to date Amiga emulation to AROS!

Check this Amiberry thread

Neat, must give Aros another go, its been a good few years now. Shame Icaros official ended development.

Unfortunately, Paolone has announced that he no longer has time to devote to IcaroDesktop. See attached link:

https://vmwaros.blogspot.com/2025/11/until-we-meet-again-icaros-desktop.html

In any case, if you want to try an AROS distribution, AROS One is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. If you've never tried it before, now is the time to do so!

I ran a few tests and I would say that for an Alpha version, it works very well!

I tried to start Amiberry directly from GRUB, basically Amiberry loads without Wanderer behind it (if you want, you can also load it and keep it behind Amiberry), the tested system is OS 3.9 BB4 RTG, where due to the lack of the JIT function (not activated because I didn't understand how to configure it properly or if it is not compatible with my tested configurations)

Of course, with the next updates, when JIT and the network are working, starting any Amiga model from an AROS base will be something really interesting. All small, disused laptops could become new portable Amigas.

This is a short video showing how easy it is to start an Amiga with Amiberry. Furthermore, if you have multiple configurations via the function key that calls up the GUI, you can also start other Amiga systems.

Update: JIT works perfectly. Thanks to Deremon, I discovered how to make JIT work correctly and how to make Amiberry calculate more Z3 RAM. Now, compared to the video posted above, OS3.9 BB4 RTG is very fast, comparable to WinUAE!

From the link attached in the News, you can follow the discussion on Amiberry and stay up to date on developments!

Now I've made a new video, where you can see AROS 68k, or rather AROS One 68k, booting from Grub. Bear in mind that I used an old DualCore with 8GB of RAM with Vmware, but the difference is made by the PC's video card and sound card; with integrated audio and video, it would have been very slow.

AROS 68k works reasonably well with 512 MB of RAM. I haven't tested compatibility, which will certainly be lower than on Amiga systems.

In the video, AROS One 68k starts from Grub, while Wanderer loads silently after a slight delay. Finally, after exiting Amiberry, AROS One 64Bit appears.

The AGS package can now also be used thanks to the new Amiberry port :)

Listening to background music from the classic Protracker while browsing the Internet in AROS? Of course. And screen dragging too. Great for me :)

I've ported all of MUI5, I won't release the code until you've paid me for it.

How much are you willing to pay?

@ppcamiga1

This isn't the first time you've written this meaningless sentence; you're being repetitive.

I also use WinUAE, but if you have a PC with AROS installed, you can't run WinUAE. To do that, you'll need two computers!

If an Amiga emulator doesn't make sense on AROS, tell me what's the point of bringing MUI to Linux. Linux has an infinite number of graphical interfaces, and besides, what would Linux users be interested in an Amiga interface for?

@deadwood

I should reactivate my AROS system.

Had it on my Linux machine, one of the updates brought in another GRUB2 version that didn't took care of the AROS partition, the partition is still there, have to find out how to activate it in GRUB2

---

BTW.:

Are there differences with supported filesystems in AROS?

FFS should be work but what is about AROS68k AROS-x86 an AROS AMD64?

@OneTimer1

On the 32-bit/64-bit x86 AROS the default filesystem is SFS. It's probably also default for AROS 68k, but you'd need to check with someone more experienced in this.

@OneTimer1

I ran some tests to verify compatibility between hard disks used on AROS 68k and hard disks used on AROS x86 32/64Bit, see screenshot

The first test was done with QEmu, where AROS 64bit is installed on a RAW hard disk and SFS BE (Standard AROS) file system, which correctly displays a HardFile with AROS 68k formatted on WinUAE in SFS BE. (Amiga 68k).

The second test was performed with WinUAE, where AROS 68k is installed on a RAW hard disk and SFS BE (Standard Amiga 68k) file system, correctly displaying a HardFile with AROS 64-bit formatted on Qemu in SFS BE (Standard AROS).

Conclusion: there is total compatibility between SFS Amiga 68k and SFS AROS x86 and 68k.

I would like to point out that AROS 68k currently on AROS 68k seems to indicate that InstallAROS cannot be used (it does not work properly), so it is not possible to initialise and format a hard disk with InstallAROS. AROS 68k, on the other hand, can use hard disks already created with WinUAE or HDToolbox (Amiga 68 or AROS 32/64bit).
