Hi All,

For the first time, BETA version of 64-bit Odyssey browser is available for people willing to try it out on either AROS-hosted or directly on Windows 11 or Linux. We prepared detailed turorials on how to install it on each of the supported platforms.

Odyssey on AROS:

https://arosnews.github.io/OWB-aros-linux-hosted/

Odyssey on Linux:

https://arosnews.github.io/OWB-axrt-linux/

Odyssey on Windows 11:

https://arosnews.github.io/OWB-axrt-wsl2/

We are looking for feedback on this development version, so please report back any stability issues or bugs you find. Please also keep in mind that this version still uses an old engine (201507) so there will be issues with rendering websites.

What is it recommended to run AROS on these days?

I notice Icaros downloads are 404'ing at the moment

@Mobileconnect

Since you are referring to Icaros, I'm assuming you are looking for 32-bit distribution that can run on real (or virtual) hardware.

Icaros is sadly no longer maintained. If you used Icaros in the past a distribution called AROS One will be closest to it. You can download it from here:

https://sites.google.com/view/arosone

With regards to recommended, low cost hardware, please check this list:

Recommended hardware

@deadwood

Cool thanks. So what is the best way to run AROS for an Amiga 'daily driver' use case (or attempt at daily driver)? is it:

- x64 hardware running Aros natively in 64 bit mode

- x64 hardware running Aros natively in 32 bit mode

- x64 hardware running it in virtualbox on windows, 64 or 32 bit

- x64 hardware running linux running hosted native Aros, 64 or 32 bit?

- SBC ARM hardware e.g. an rPi running 68k aros on linux using a UAE of some kind

- above but running native Aros hosted on linux

- SBC ARM hardware running emu68 running 68k Aros

- Amiga hardware with a pistorm running emu68 running 68k Aros

Does ArosOne have the integrations with Janus-UAE that Icaros had to make it easy to run classic software?

@Mobileconnect

If you are looking for daily driver, than 32-bit should be your choice currently. Now whether is is real hardware, virtual or hosted is mostly your preference. Many users start with virtual and the eventually purchase required hardware. Developers prefer hosted as it speed up development process.

With regards to your second question, I believe AROS One has UAE integration, but I don't know the details here unfortunatelly.

JanusUAE is WinUAE-based, so you can emulate everything as you see fit, on AROS One from the next version you will be able to run ADF Games and WHDload with one click, see attached video.

Run ADF Games directly with Janus-UAE on AROS One:

https://youtu.be/tKV80PfPUVQ

Run Multiples WHDLoad Games directly with Janus-UAE on AROS One:

https://youtu.be/eJ9XGIipNGI

Likewise you can run WorkBench (ADF) or Hardisk (HardFile or Directory Filesystem)

Of course it is the user who has to add KickStart and Operating Systems, this is for copyright reasons.

@Mobileconnect

I can't answer that directly as I don't have much knowledge about Apple hardware. What I'm using for years in Linux Mint. If you can get version 21 or earlier to work, that would be closest to reference. If the pre-build version does not work on your distribution of choice, you can always compile AROS linux hosted yourself. The process is scripted so a person with no development experience can do this. If you want to follow that route, contact me on discord, AmigaDev server.

Sure, you can repost the video.

In the arosworld.org thread I linked, you will find links to tutorials on how to install it under Linux, Windows or AROS.

Read them and downloaded.
However I still want modded MINT LMDE AROS x64 :D

I will support you by donations if you prefer becuase
this is real liberating step to Amiga(ns, OS).

Can MUI 5 be recompiled from OS3 to AROS x64
since ZUNE is stack at 88 percent compatibility?

Is there anything that you find advanced in MorphOS to benefit of AROS x64
that needs licensing? I would like to contact MOS team on figure
and make a bounty on Power2People if you can do recompile?

AROS was used for System 57, ApolloOS, MorphOS and OS4, it would be nice
to have "payback time"

What about experimental SMP for 32 bit AROS? Does it work?

That something that I would also like to see, but it's outside of my capacity this or next year. If someone with good Linux knowledge steps in and starts building such distribution, it may happen sooner though.

That statistic is from 2009 and is vastly outdated by now. Right now I'd say the compatibility is closer to 98%. Odyssey is a heavy-MUI application first created on MorphOS and it runs on Zune just as good. Also Zune is used in A600GS (if I'm not mistaken) to run 68k MUI applications.

I have no knowledge/visibility in this topic.

Damn, this will probably mean we will now have 20% less ppcamiga1 content, since once he acknowledges how advanced the port is, surely he will no longer repeat to people: "stop trolling and start working on mui on aros".

I guess he will come to his senses now!
