Hi!

After releasing RetroArch for AmigaOS 4, MorphOS, AmigaOS 3.x WarpOS and AmigaOS 3.x 68k I am now working on a version for AROS 64 Bit.

A first working Beta (already very stable Beta!) was given to Betatesters this weekend.

If you want access to the Beta version -> all who send me a small donation (let's say 10-15 EUR) to my PayPal account (tirionareonwe@gmail.com) get access to the Beta versions (go sure to mention to what email address to send the Beta if you send money).

There are already over a dozen cores supported by the AROS version.

As to AROS 32 Bit Support -> it depends if AROS users think this is still relevant (I am not really an AROS user so I do not know, feel free to give me your opinion on it - right now I concentrate on making a 64 Bit version - I also saw on AROS Archives, that most emulators you have right now are 32 Bit, so for 64 Bit the biggest need for Emulator releases I guess).

@MagicSN

1st
thank you.

2nd
AROS/pc-i386 system may still be the most popular, because AROS/pc-x86_64 has been in a beta state last year.

Thank you for your work.

Okay, so your recommendation would be still to do a 32 Bit version as well ? I will look into compiling that also once the 64 Bit version is good.

The good thing is -> going from 64 Bit to 32 Bit will be much easier ^^

Best regards,
Steffen

@MagicSN

If you could make the 64 bit version the 32 bit version should be easier.

Some older programs might run into problems on 64 Bit because an Address has now a different size than an INT.

@OneTimer1

Most of the stuff involved in RetroArch is already 64 Bit adapted. I think some older Mame versions have issues (but Mame2010 Core for example had no problems). And yes, recompiling then for 32 Bit should be no issue.

The biggest issue is the recompilation of the 32 Bit Cross Compiler which again involves recompiling AROS (this was quite some work to get it working for the 64 Bit already).

@OneTimer1

At the moment, AROS 64Bit is in some ways more advanced and more up-to-date than AROS 32Bit.
Hundreds of fixes and many improvements to the Core have been made to AROS 64Bit v11, and we do not know if they will also be brought to the 32bit version.

Among the 64-bit improvements, some concern Zune. As you can see from the attached screenshot, the appearance has now improved considerably.

At present, only third-party software updates are available on AROS 32Bit.

@Amiboy

Thanks. Not yet a release though, more a stable Betaversion.

But as it is my first program on AROS I am pretty happy it worked so far (have been trying to make it work since quite a while).

And so it should be.

The Amiga Development Scissor (from now on: ADS) should widen and widen!!!!

Initiatives that are forward looking such as the mighty AROS should forget about that 32bit dredge. WHY STRUGGLE WITH ALL THAT CODE just go with current hardware.

Initiatives that bask in nostalgia and retro preservation should be 68k only and guarantee backward compatibility with anything from the amigaos 1.x to 3.x days NOT TO MENTION BARE METAL HITTING.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

Stop telling people what they should use. Also the PPC operating systems are the technically best instances of AmigaOS. The same do not demand of AROS people which version they want to use.

People will use what they want to use.

And nobody using AmigaOS4 or MorphOS cares about stuff from 1.x to 3.x days much so UAE compiled native for OS4/MOS is enough there.

The only good way of handling is support all.

Also you contradict yourselves - before you criticized that I support non-OS4, now suddenly you want 68k only ? Note 68k has serious flaws (compiler issues and many libraries not available) so not all projects are viable for it. I am still trying to support it where possible.

But all this discussion does not belong here.

Dear, dearest lovely friend MagicSN.

It is now clear that you are challenged in properly understanding this language of ours, known confidentially as "English".

First of all, you may note my use of the word "should",
this form denotes POSSIBILITY not imposition.
I am not telling anyone what they must use, I am merely suggesting,
advising, counseling, my friend.

Second! Never I criticized support for OS4.
I condemned your support for Hyperion, the destroyers of Amiga.

Finally, my coding-talented yet emotionally-challenged friend,
your dismissal of classic Amigas and relegation of this experience to emulation, is simply UNBECOMING. No better term comes to mind.

Who is trying to impose anything here? Me?
Certainly not. It is you, MagicSS,
with your smothering of free speech: "such discussion does not belong here".

Next step: Hofbräukeller?
/m!

@MagicSN

Thank you.
I'll make a PayPal donation tomorrow.
One reason a 32bit version would be handy is the current lack of 3d acceleration for 64bit.
Would be fun to be able to play ps2, xbox, etc. WiiU, etc. games under an Amiga-oid OS :) (although 3d acceleration for 64bit is on the way, so at some point it be possible regardless).
Thanks again.

If there is any moderation here, please remove this post. He insults me again. Several times.

And no, free speech does not allow insullting other people.

And I support Amiga - no matter in what form - I am not doing things with a little mind only.

About Classic Amiga - I *do* support the classic Amiga. I released quite a list of titles for the classic Amiga lately.

Hint - do not write when you are drunk. But seems to me you always do this (from the quality of your posts)

Without Hyperion there would be no OS4 BTW.

And do not call me your "friend". I am not your friend.

II have a AROS 32 Bit version ready for testing. It is completely untested though. I hope it works.

That’s equivalent to what the hoax at the time known as Q-OS promised.

MagicSN,
you ARE my friend!

You might not consider me your friend, but I certainly love you as one.
Your refusal to come into my friendly, BROTHERLY embrace sure saddens me.

BUT!! Magic! You need to man up. Your sensitivity is certainly not typical of the Teutonic male.
Everything seems to bruise you, everything makes you run whining for a moderator to save you.
WHAT! What did I write that could be construed as an offense?

On the other hand, you accuse me of being intoxicated at the time of writing,
something that undeniably constitutes slander.
Slander, my friend, a prosecutable civil offense!

Magic,
I will be awaiting for your apologies, which I am confident will eventually bless these courtesy-starved pages.

In the meantime,
let's us all bask in the glory of retroarch on Aros 64 bit.

/MEGA!

PS. yes you are right, without Hyperion there would be no AOS4: what a wonderful world would it be, with one less camp and one less horrible mess of an OS stuck between past and future with no clear path in either direction

QEMU is a pretty good emulator.

https://www.qemu.org/

I don't know if has anything with Q.OS but its kind of the same idea is it not?
