The site seems to be extremely slow to respond these days. I've noticed it for some time, but the guest count wouldn't seem to indicate a bot bombardment. Also, the delay duration is highly consistent and once the content begins to serve it loads quickly, rather than slowly.

Do we have some reverse DNS or other enforced delays ?

@Karlos

Yep, stated the situation a while back and something was tweaked to speed things up for a while. This seems a long term intermittent issue post-server change! It's also still Christmas here on planet Arrakis!

I assume Amiga.org gets a lot more love!

Yes I checked this on Google PageSpeed Insights and it won't return quick enough to produce results. Solarwinds Pingdom shows most of the time is taken up on wait - server processing. It could be something is exhausting resources or things have been turned down purposely.

Nailed it!

But seriously since we have many historical threads on various topics here on AW, it presents yet another problem.
I link to AW threads on other sites so people can read more about a topic.

I'll be having to respond to "why did you think that linking to a dead website would help me understand anything?" posts soon.

@number6: it looks like that AW is being left in the dust, slowly dying.

Evidently, there's no interest or... it's on purpose, looking at some threads & discussions that are ongoing, which aren't properly "aligned" to the business.

@thread

Isn't the internet amazing? I clicked on 'Reply' earlier this morning, and now I have a text field in which I can type these words. Sure beats sending a floppy disk in the mail.

I hope everyone has at least a cursory understanding of information theory: This level of neglect really only tells a single story.

As of right now, I'm only having to wait around 20s per request. However it does load eventually, there are never load warnings (maybe it's just vbulletin that shows those) issues indicating the database is too busy. So it could even be a noisy neighbour problem, something else consuming all the bandwidth.

@clint

Yeah I'm sorry about this, the MySQL was in a race condition. It needed a bit of a downtime after I restarted it to complete writing a long list of things to disk, so the site had to be down for a while.

Seems far more performant right now
