@agami

It’s nice that AmigaKit will be selling a very affordable Amiga soon(A600GS). High priced NG Amigas while cool have not attracted enough users and developers for the past 20 years. Maybe an affordable option can kickstart this hobby market into high gear.

Agree completely. I've never owned an NG machine of any kind, entirely because of price.

I just pre-ordered and am looking forward to exploring my first new Amiga in over 30 years. Last new Amiga purchase was an A3000 in 1991 to take to university!

@Dave73

Is this a NG? runs classic AmigaOS or AROS, not AmigaOS4.x

Anything goes now with the 'pride' 6-colour rainbow plus extension 'arrow', so stick a unicorn in the middle and have done with it! No need to bring politics into this thread as there's enough on the news right now!

The unpoliticised rainbow is quite synonymous with 80s computers, from the Sinclair Spectrum to the Amiga Checkmark! Obviously the original 'bow' is the sign of God's strength and unbreakable covenant with us; that whatever we do He will keep His side of the promise!

Yes true, I was responding to the thought that NG machines have been too expensive. This isn't an NG machine, but it will be a new Amiga to me

@NutsAboutAmiga

If NG is e.g. way faster then 060 (and not PPC/OS4) then it is, as e.g. V2/V4 or PiStorm are.

If we look at NG as move forward from OS 3.1/OS 3.9, bundled software pack and basement OS again make it NG.

If this is an Amiga, then any device capable of running Amiga emulator is an Amiga.

Is that reasonable?

Since m68k death, anything that can drive Amiga software development forward is an Amiga :D

Software wise, its more way forward then A500 Mini, which is pure console like easy emulated gaming. Why not widening Amiga like hardware presence?

AEON had a chance with unrealized AmiKit XE boot laptop, with Rabbit Hole, which was a nice idea to bring both modern experience and ability to run Amiga software. This is kind of 2nd try, and not that bad :D

What Amiga emulation needed was a system shipped with fully licensed emulation out of box. This is closest to it.

There is lot of repackaging going on, that’s what seems to me.

New Picture and a pic inside, I thought it was Orange Pi!

Just so you know the specs of the board used,

Orange Pi Zero 3
Processor: Allwinner H618 64-bit Cortex-A53 Quad-core CPU, 1.5GHz
Memory: 4GB LPDDR4 RAM
Storage: TF (MicroSD) card slot, 16MB SPI Flash
Wireless Connectivity: Dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz and 5GHz)
bluetooth: Version 5.0
Ethernet: Gigabit LAN (10M/100M/1000M)
USB Ports: USB 2.0
Video Output: Micro HDMI

But it does look like it been paired with a custom hardware by Rabbit Hole Computers, which looks like its connect to the GPIO that adds a extra two USB ports at the back and Two 9 pin boards at the front for classic Amiga mouses and joysticks.

But more interestingly it looks like it offers pins for Amiga Keyboard if Im not mistaken inside.
So this board would be cool for modders to put inside there Amiga, it would least make more sense in my mind than the A500mini that many people used.

Im not too sure, but this extra board might also be compatible with Raspberry Pi boards, as Orange Pi trys to be compatible. So it be cool if Amigakit or Rabbit hole computing sold this separately.

I hope to have ago of the system at Kickstart at the end of month. Likely more tempted than I should be, knowing that the Pi400 + Amikit system I have is likely just as good, but I do appreciate the work they done to make this a bit more interesting and the custom / improved OS / Software that comes with the system.

Ah, yes I recognize that, I already got a few.

Btw, I use either Armbian or full-on “self hosted” Gentoo with my “non-raspbian” pi systems - what’s this running? How will it be maintained?

Amigakit reported they sold all stock of the A600gs and A1222 Plus they brought with them to Retcon.

Just goes to show there is a market for these products.

@amigang

I wouldn’t measure its success on this, the “real product” here is after all the “ecosystem”, and that has yet to be released.

Also, AmigaKit are now entering a segment they have never been in before, they are now responsible for maintaining devices installed in the … eh.. tens (?) of homes where these devices are located. How will they do this? All questions about this have been answered with AmiStore/AmiSphere and been about updates to the emulated environment, never about the host OS. The RetroGame products were without networking capabilities for damn good reasons, this on the other hand is networked, already quite a risky thing for AmigaKit, and it doesn’t help thay they repeatedly demonstrate a lack of understanding when it comes security, tls, how to monitor infrastructure etc.

There is indeed. I just placed my order for an A600GS today. And I've had my A1222 for some time.

Based on discussions on Discord and other forums new A1222 owners seem pleased with their new systems and I'm looking forward to seeing feedback on the A600GS folks eventually, too.

Looks like AmigaKit and partners are on a roll!

This week we are pleased to confirm that Hard Drive File (HDF) support has been added to the A600GS. The live software update will be published early next week to existing A600GS users.

Here is a video showing how easy it is to add a HDF file from a USB flash drive and then launch it. In this case the game is Frontier. I hope you enjoy how smooth this 3D game runs.

Here is another A600GS video showing how easy it is to change disks and save states of games for instant playback at that point. In this case the game is Alien Breed. We hope you enjoy the video!

Does the A600GS have any serial port functionality? Null-modem connections/serial devices like graphics tablets etc?
