Hi!

https://amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-2025-08-00050-EN.html

This is BTW what I sometimes hinted as "Secret Project #1" (now no longer secret )

@MagicSN

This is brilliant! I love the fact it is a 'proper' Amoga port too. The fact it can run an AGA with a 40Mhz 040 is so cool.

@MagicSN

That must have been a job and a half. How many colours and what resolution can you run it in at a playable level on a 50Mhz 060?

Nice!

@-Sam-

The game is a 8 Bit game. So the color depth, there is no variation.

On a 50 MHz 060 it depends a bit on if AGA or graphics board and possibly which graphics board.

On AGA: 320x256. Though on a 060 you could set env:Settlers2/ResX to 400 and env:Settlers2/ResY to 300 and then either make a fitting screenmode for that (if your monitor can handle that) or play in a stampsize. 480x270 also might still be okay. On a good graphics card (Cybervision for example) 640x480 can be possible.

@MagicSN

Is 640x480 possible on a 060/50 with Picasso IV? I'm sure that's the resolution Shafeshifter is using on the Mac side! It should be able to at least match that for speed?

@BigD

As it is a Zorro3 Card I would suspect so but I do not have concrete speed data there.

When I checked YouTube videos of Shapeshifter with 060 I found especially the scrolling a bit jerky compared to my native version though.

@MagicSN

Great news, but why no MorphOS version?

I don't have much space in my new study, so the only Amiga compatible systems that are not stored away in plastic tubs in the garage are Apollo SA and Mac mini G4 with MorphOS.

I guess I'll have to see if it'll run under ApolloOS, or on an A600GS.

@agami

Because no licence for MorphOS exists. Acquiring a licence for AmigaOS *and* MorphOS would have doubled the licence cost. The amount of MorphOS users would not have brought this amount back, so it would have been a bad idea.

Especially considering it is not even needed, as see this " (OS4, WarpOS and 68k)"
!!!!!!!!!!!

The included WarpOS version (WarpOS falls under the AmigaOS licence, as it is AmigaOS 3.x) works absolutely fine under MorphOS (this has been tested).

The game also works fine on Apollo hardware (though not sure if it has been tested under ApolloOS, I think the Vampire which was used for testing had AmigaOS 3.2 installed.

No idea if it works on A600GS. But on MorphOS the WarpOS Version works, and I think it is at least likely that the AmigaOS 3.x version works on ApolloOS.

Best regards,
Steffen

Sounds good - can’t wait to play it.

Also on Toms Hardware now too! Amiga still has an audience-

@BigD

Remember though AGA version even if you do env variables to raise it from 320x256 you only will get 640x480 with dialogs the size of the 320x256 version. If you use the graphics board instead of the AGA version you get 1024x768 (but need Pi Video Output then).

Okay, what one could do is using the highres main exe combined with the AGA magicsystem library, I never tried that, but might be that you then get a "proper" 640x480 version (the installer does not offer this option for AGA though, it is assumed that someone with a fast enough system for 640x480 also has a graphics board - or PiStorm Pi Video output).

A valid assumption. What about shoehorning in a 2-player mode? Was it ever considered? We have the mouse technology?!!!

Even a 2 player knight attack/catapult based tower defense game would have been good!

I saw that and wondered about its potential to function on MorphOS.

Thanks for confirming it has been tested to work. This is awesome news.

Well done!

I see Collector's Edition is already sold out, nice.

So, it is either Box Edition, or Digital Edition for me. Decisions, decisions.
