I don't know if this has been posted already, but anyway ....
Over the years I know a lot of fellow fans of AB3D that have expressed their wish to see it running in fullscreen 1x1 mode.
There's a chap called binaryfoundry posting over at EAB that's decided to make this happen. Using AI tools to assist the conversion of the original 68K assembly code to functionally equivalent C he has an engine that loads the original assets and levels. Not a remake written from scratch, but the same fundamental rendering algorithms that were in the original game right down to the fixed point arithmetic and packed 3 columns per word texturing. It's for the PC (technically for SDL) for the moment and completely lifts the lid on the resolution. A recent update has the water refraction working and it all runs in glorious software rendered RGB. It's still a work in progress but already it looks great.
Alien Breed 3D engine was impressive even in low resolution (room above room, water effects), but that game is really hard and my skills were weak even in my youth.
