i will back bobson up on one thing...
have you tried IBROWSE on an µa1 with GX cpu ?
no i didnt think so...
its useless on the gx, its totally crashing all the time and well i know atleast 3 very big Amiga fan's who aint using their µa1 atm because of this problem.
|
Not quite true!
Just execute command "CPU NOEXTERNALCACHE" before using IBrowse on a GX and it's stable as a rock. Then "CPU EXTERNALCACHE" when your done surfing. This works fine on my 750GX µA1-C anyway. And seems to work for quite a few others to.

sure with that option it gets better but do you even know what it does to the system?
and there is people like me who has their browser up all day while dooing work and so on...well that option of yours is a great way to emulate windows with
but yes to thoose who dont need the system to be maxxed out at all times ...sure its an option but dont go there and put that line in user-startup or simmilar

Well.. I really don't notice much difference I must say. On or off! I don't know why.. Maybe I haven't tested it much. Ibrowse is so unstable that I get a total crash within minutes with the L2 cache on.
It can also be that the whole system (NB, mem speed, No DMA on HD & running on emulation) makes it unnoticable in IBrowse. But you're absolutly right in that it must affect performance system wide on bigger native applications.
That's on thing I HATE with MUI.. When a MUI app crashes it brings down the whole GUI system. Requiring a reboot!

Think YOU have to wake up a bit! I¨'m using Windows because my CPU on my A1G3XE died out, so before you answer, i suggest you read carefully! You always seems to end up misunderstanding my point. Linux might be harder to set up than Windows, but then Linux has a brigher future than Windows. That's for sure!
Windows is attacked by any type of virus everyday! Trying to be hacked into everyday! Do we see that on Linux at the moment! Not at all, and Linux doesn't have the problematic Microsoft-monopholy the Windows platform has..
So the next time you gonna say something. I suggest you give yourself time to read first, so you avoid misunderstanding my point of views!

Geeze...you really didn't address any of the questions or issues I asked.
I'm quite woken up. I'm paid pretty well to know what's going on in the market, as part of my job writing software for several platforms.
You don't have to tell me 'Windows is annoying.' I KNOW it is. I don't like writing ANY Windows specific code, and that fact has hurt my career at times, but that is how much *I* personally dislike it.
However, my initial responses to you were based in FACTS, not 'I don't like Windows, but yet own a Windows system, so I'll 'pronounce Windows dead.'' That's not how the real world works, period. (ok, maybe unless you're Bill Gates and he decides to publicly admit Windows is a POS )
You also don't need to tell me about virii either....however, have you forgotten the MANY virii and trojans from the classic Amiga days? Unprotected memory and single user running as administrator in an OS isn't the greatest, if someone _wanted_ to write an OS4 virus or trojan.
There's nothing bad about being enthusiastic about something, but you'll find yourself being taken much more seriously if you actually take some time to: 1. Learn about the reality of something you'd like to post about. 2. Stop posting like your _opinion_, and one not always exactly based on FACTS, is anything resembling real life.
Re-iterating the same thing endlessly doesn't make it true, no matter how much you may wish otherwise.
BTW- you said you've used Linux. So: 1. Why are you posting from a Windows system then, instead of a Linux one? 2. What exactly did you DO with your Linux system? What distribution? What apps? Why aren't you on it now while you wait for you XE with 27 hard drives to be fixed?

Quick point here, his XE _was_ his Linux system _________________ This weeks pet peeve: Using "voltage" instead of "potential", which leads to inventing new words like "amperage" instead of "current" (I, measured in A) or possible "charge" (amperehours, Ah or Coulomb, C). | I cant help but think what have Amiga inc done in all this other than hinder things. They could be doing a lot more but instead they seem to be sitting on their arses dreaming of an internet OS and taking credit from the people who have done the work - Hyperion and Eyetech.
Amiga inc said they are a software only company - so they should be making OS 4 apps. They should be supporting OS 4. Its as if they dont really care about it. Like they have some kinda half arsed attitude towards it. Wouldn't surprise me if they try and kill it off. |

| What's the rush, let the os4 developers use all the time in the world, I'm only 25 and won't have much time to play around with OS4 until I'm like 65-70 I guess.. After I don't have to work any more.. :) |
