the only thing holding me back from getting it is that they don't take Maestro / Switch, so I cannot actually pre-order

Thats a shame, have you e-mailed Titan to see if there is a work around?
We are nearly 3/4 of the way with minimum pre-orders.

Föreningssparbanken in Sweden has a service called E-Card, which is a "virtual" Mastercard (which only requires a Maestro). You just add an amount of cash and you will get a generated Mastercardnumber (this will also be safer than using a real card because they cannot charge more than the amount assigned to the card). Perhaps they have something similar in the UK?

For those of you who have something against Turboprint (which is excellent and I don't know where we would have been without it)

well, from all opinions and reviews we had on www.amigaimpact.org i can tell you that Papyrus is not even a beta version in its current state. Don't expect to do anything serious with it but some betatesting. Such a high price for a software that is far from being finished... clever guys at Titan, you buy the product and do the beta testing... they don't pay for betatesters, they got betatesters that pay them ! hehehe

Well the Windows version seems just fine, so I should imagine it's all about just fine tuning the Amiga OS version?

I've seen a number of posts by people having trouble with TurboPrint with OS4. If it's going to include an OS4 version of TurboPrint that uses the OS4 version of GhostScript I would consider it. However, if it's going to use OS3 TurboPrint with an outdated version of GhostScriipt then count me out. I don't think is makes much sense to replace my perfectly working OS3 programs (FinalWriter, TurboCalc, SuperBase) with an OS4 program that needs OS3 programs to print.
|
I think you are misunderstanding the way TP and OS4 Ghostscript work together.
First of all, you do need a recent version of TP. But you don't use the old Ghostscript that comes with it, you use the OS4 native version of Ghostscript 8 instead. It includes all-new TurboPrint devices for B/W, grayscale and color.
And to the applications, Turboprint is Turboprint (if they know about it at all). And even if TP is a 68k app, it runs fine under emulation here. I can print from e.g. AmiPDF (i.e. Postscript->GS->TP->printer) as well as from e.g. GraphicsPublisher (GP->TP->printer).

I'm looking for programs that are 100% PPC native.

We all are. But until your favourite app exists in a native PPC version, emulation under OS4 is far better than not having the program available. (And JIT emulation far better than that again).
Best regards,
Niels

Personally I don't have anything against Turbo Print per se, other than the fact that I don't own a copy anymore and I wouldn't like the idea of having to buy (69 EURO) a classic apps to just be able to use Papyrus. If an AmigaOS4 version of TurboPrint would be planned this would be another story.
Considering Micheal's statement with regard to Turbo Print, I will pre-order within the coming days. I hope Titan makes us proud with a good quality port, AmigaOS4 needs a good quality Office suite. |

Well, I just pre-ordered this a.m. Still only 46 pre-orders according to your poll though. And another 46 thinking about it.
I hope it at least goes far enough that I can download the 68K version. Even if not as efficient as an AOS4 version, it would be better than having to go back into Linux or Windows to use OpenOffice or Microsoft Office.

Slowly rising though (up to 47 now) and about 13 more to get to minimum target figure._________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

| i won't only because i am still saving up for an a1c and i am a long way from that. my a500 don't have the horsepower to cut it anymore without an accelerator and feel that money would be better placed on a new system. after that then i will be regularly be playing catch up on the software side.

Well, I'm quite satisfied with 47 preorders in only 4 days!
* It's actually not the cheapest software on this planet * Many Amiga users don't logon to AW.net every day. * There will certainly be users that preorder and don't answer this poll. * Some will preorder that that doesn't even visit this site.
But if the platform can't cope with getting a mere 60 preorders for an essential piece of software like this, then it's really doomed.
But I told Michael Garlich in an email that he would easily get 60 orders. I even believed 100 would be easy if they provided the platform with a functional native office suit. Hope we don't disappoint him.
Regarding TurboPrint.. I emailed them and asked if they are considering making an native OS4 version. They said not at the moment. I told them about the problem OS4 users have with installing their software (disks) and asked if I could order it on CD. They offered to email me the software and send me the 68k package by mail. I will ask them if they atleast can fix any outstanding problems with OS4 regarding media, installation and bugs.

That's my feeling too! Lots of people moaned that there was no modern office applications available for OS4 and when an option is available (via pre-order) to them they go quiet! Although I do think that pre-ordering isn't ideal it's the only option we have.
Too many people with great ideas with the saviour of the Amiga platform but when it comes down to it...... it's all talk! We need software the platform to survive, there is some good stuff available such as Hollywood (bought it), Designer (got that too) and Pagestream soon to be OS4 native (have 68k version and will be ordering OS4 version soon) so people should go and buy it._________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

i fear that it sold very little (but i dont know for sure)
anyway its irrelevant, everyone who can afford it and needs an office suite, pre order NOW!.
lets change the low amount of commercial apps/games on os4 to the better and lets attract developers.
ps:i dont need an office suite but i pre ordered because i "might" use it though i am willing to put some cash into stuff i know others want alot. Last edited by Toaks on 20-Jun-2005 at 11:49 PM.

Michael didn't seem that worried about the MOS version as they seemed to had been given a developer machine (and also some cash I believe) for making this software. They're also strong followers/believers in that platform themselves. Because of this the breakeven number for the MOS version should be smaller than OS4.
But as for how many sold one can only guess. Maybe 100? or max 300 including the 68k version, probably less?

Considering there are around 1,500 AmigaOne owners (I'm assuming based on what I've read) I would have expected there to be a lot more than 60.
Come on peeps, its only Ł80 (aren't there around 250 AmigaOne owners in the UK alone?)

That's pretty good considering The OS hasn't been released yet, and it's a preorder.
