Yes, this site http://www.morphos.net confirms "it's not ready".

So in theory Eyetech could just buy a bunch of peg boards and sell them as AmigaONE's as they already have the A1 license..?

This is also something I would like to know for sure instead of the usual speculation.

Oh yeah, and who cares if it was exculsively tied to Genesi hardware? At least we would HAVE some hardware.

I have to step in here. *I* for one would care. The last thing I want is an exclusivity that ties OS 4 to a specific hardware. I've seen my share of this. Any argument that Genesi is "here to stay" or that they have "a steady production going" is bogus, the same could have been said about 3DFX or SGI.

We suggested that business model quite several times. But either Alan did not understood or he just had no interest.

@Samwel

MOS 1.5 has undergone quite deep changes. Within the kernel many things changed, also with CGX. Parts which did not rely on these changes were released (MOS 1.4.5, the 3d updtae and MUIcon).
MOS 1.5 was ready two years ago, but that state was not frozen. When delays happend, the development went on, the planed 1.5 relase from two years ago was abolished, partial work was released (1.4.5, 3D, etc.), other parts were redesigned and new implemented, those things are not ready for relase now. Current 1.5 is far more progressed than 1.5 two years ago.
True indeed is that development has slowed down (MOS is only done in spare time today) and progress is not as fast as one might dream of.

The fact that we are talking about Genesi is interested in Amiga, again....
does this mean that Hyperion is in a danger situation?

I want OS4, from Hyperion... i'm sure... but someone already start to talk about Morphos on any new hardware...

I was actually trying to use that to get a point across to Sammy. Of course I don't want it tied to any hardware. Look at the problems that has caused now with the A1 license deal. I can only presume that is "the share" you refer to, but I may be wrong. Anyway, it was Sammy's speculation that Genesi would somehow tie the OS to the hardware. I don't see why, they don't with any of the others.

Of course, no single company can be concidered "here to stay". I agree that Genesi could fold tomorrow as well as any other company. But again, the point was, they have produced a good number of production runs of two styles of boards, and are looking to bring out a third and fourth... Both high and low end. They communicate with their user base and keep them updated on when the product is expected, and usually meet closely to the announced time. Small delays can always be expected, and are okay as long as you don't stay silent and give the user base the impression you are dead. That's what it feels like with Troika, Eyetech, and to an extent ACK. (Announcements about announcements that never happen...etc) At least Genesi are making partnerships with IBM and Freescale, and the like...

All I can tell you is that if there is not some hardware to run OS4 soon (and I don't mean Christmas)... I'm outta here... And I will be looking at alternative hardware as well. I've stuck to the "Official partners" side for the last 6 years now, and look what it has gotten me.... I'm 42 years old, tired of the delays, the non responsive companies, and stonewalling. (non of those apply to Hyperion... they are the only one's who have held up the deal). The OS4 market has been stalled for how long with the lack of hardware? People have came back and left again during this saga... I'm about ready to joing those ranks.

@Herewegoagain

Count me in!!

Been waiting for so many years I can't even remember when it started.

Perhaps some months/years away would be good.

Hmmm, that could be something to find out.
If that is possible, why even bother with carrying around the apparent dead weight of Amiga Inc., strange business deals and never ending FUD and bickering and just move to the hardware of choice under a new name?

Something to think about at least.

Who actually owns Hyperion btw? Just curious.

I suspect that the agreement with Amiga Inc. contains a clause in which use of AmigaOS4 with non-approved hardware is prohibited, still it is nice to dream.

One of my thoughts concerned the apparent "low yield rate" for the PS3. I wonder if we could somehow get a deal with Sony for thier motherboard with some of these Cell processors that dont make the grade for the PS3. They get to recoupe some losses from waste CPU's we get some hardware that we just need to plonk in our own box and bits.

Believe me that I share the sentiments, I have put the last five years of my life in it, it is more than a bit frustrating for me to see what could be and what actually is happening.

There is light in the tunnel ahead, and I am quite sure that it is not the headlights of a train.

The managing partners own Hyperion.

Hi gary_c,

I've seen hundreds of posts by samface on ANN.Lu and been hard pressed to find a mistake anywhere.

Usually they're just of a grammatical nature, if ever there.

However what I have seen, which again you don't acknowledge very much, if at all is the amount of vicious attacks against him.

Heck, even here now by polka. and ronaldst.

@Rogue

Is there no way Hyperion could DO the hardware as well as the Os ?

Anyone who knows the scene knows that it's HYPERION keeping this game alive anyway. They might as well go the whole hog and reunite the os with hardware at manufacturer level.

All IMHO of course.

Is that KAMOS? Is it possible for AOS4 to be released?
