As on topic I'm only curious if we can get an update5 before the AmigaOS4 final release to enjoy the many updates and new features (Radeon overlay too! ) of our nice OS

P.S. Maybe I like to use the new usb driver for PCI cards for A1SE finally i can use memory cards or plug my psp to my a1...

As described by Hyperion OS4 final Release Candidate probably will appear until end of that year, but dustrubution won't happen before end gennary or beginning of febbrary because of CD stamping and packaging...
It seems right to me, but for that reason I hope in an Update5 before Xmas(maybe in november?).

I remember last year they said the same thing, there will be no update 4 because hardware is coming out soon. No hardware came out, so since it didn't make sense to just sit on the progress they'd made on OS4, they polished it, gave it an installer and called it update 4. Depending on what we see at amiwest, we may get the same thing happening this year. Reading between the lines from what beta testers say, there should be a similar difference between update 4 and what's on CVS right now as there was between update 3 and update 4.

Here's a big, huge problem for them.

IF they release an update now, how much really more different will it be from the final release? Probably not much.

If that's the case, then this essentially would be the final releaase.

And THAT means, it can be evaluated as such. And if that happens, well, the final release won't be as big huge an event as it should be!


The steam will have dissipated by then.

One uneducated guess saying we'll see another pre-final update...no clue when, though.

Assuming additional hardware ever does become available for purchase, including OS4 license/able to run OS4, it's also likely an additional update or download would need to become available to cover the new hardware as well, though...so it may be a while..?

yeahh me too i expekt a lot off new stuff when os 4.0 gets out,so iff there make and update there need to make alot off new stuff to put on the final realese,

i am happy iff there just give out the s-video driver for radion ( amiga one micro)

i wont bay a dvd player, when i have en micro with DVD.

IIRC, Rogue said they were using this extra time to add new bells and whistles, stuff that wasn't planned.
If they release an update and then have another waiting period, I guess they can add some more stuff, no? ;)

Considering we have had reports that a lot of things are already implemented (Overlay IIRC), a comment like "update4 NEEDS an update" is a little out of date. Saying we *as OS4 users* NEED another update would be more accurate

At the end of the day the only people that would benefit from another update would be the current users & lets face it, OS4 Update 4 isn't exactly broken is it. Not by a long shot.

[Touch Wood] Unless we suffer troubles meaning that we don't see new hardware for another 6 months(ish), I would say we can hang on for the final release.

Don't get me wrong, I too would love to see another update before the final release but seeing as how we seem so close now, I'd much rather wait for THE final package to see the grand finale. . . Although saying that, I'd also like to be part of the Beta team seeing daily updates but you can't have it all can you

I have used PSP on my a1/OS4 for ages(long before last pre release etc), no problems what so ever. As for memory cards, used this on my a1/OS4 since pre release 1 or so with a card reader.

then get a diffrent board, i doubt USB will ever work on that board as it should or even at all.

A pci board would be ok i guess but then you have to rely on 3rdparties and well i dunno, my word of advice is to go for an samantha when it arrives or maybe an old XE or whatever.

While some things need updates, I don't think it's that bad.

A "better kernel" is welcome, but not essential. This one is working fine. ;)
I'd like to see AmigaInput working as it should, instead of the current "disappearing settings".
Other than that, I can't see any pressing need.
