OS 3.5, IIRC...

As far as I remember I was really surprised when OS 3.9 came out already in December 1999 - I didn't expect it before mid of 2000...

Over seven years ago, the market was a lot larger then. IIRC, the had access to the source of AmigaOS as well, something that the OS4 team didn't.

####! Hyperion have had access to the Amiga OS source code from the very beginning, that's why it's the one true Amiga OS and MorphOS and AROS are not.

Thanks for this behavior... it is the right one, IMHO.

@nicholas

My understanding is that they did have most of the code for OS3.9 but some components did belong to H&P so they did not have access to all, like “EditPad” for example, I do not think that this has affected the final product in any big way, I own AmigaOS 3.5 and I have used AmigaOS 3.9, there is really noting missing, and if there is any thing missing its replaced whit better stuff, like the finder utility in AmigaOS 3.5/3.9 is not as advanced as the on in AmigaOS 4.0 for example.

Also I think you all will notice that AmigaOS4 is more polished product compared to OS3.5 and AmigaOS3.9 (The Amiga OS 3.5 installer did not even work for me, when I installed it)

It's easy to see how this would piss someone off. Of course to some here Rogue/Hyperion are not allowed to fight back. They are just supposed to sit back and take it.

Bottom line is: Yes. Frankly the statement hardly qualified as an insult and most certainly did not deserve an insult in return. But more importantly, Rogue is sort of performing unofficial PR for AOS4 and Hyperion, whether he acknowledges it or likes it or not, so even more reason to show restraint and professionalism on their behalf. I too often read stuff that comes off as defensive and bitter on his part, which is obviously and somewhat understandably related to his frustration with some people, which often manifests itself as hostility towards anyone he might percieve as treating him as an idiot for asking a question that he finds, whether rightfully or not, annoying or pointless, which is not exactly good PR, specially with a new user. If a question is annoying or pointless, then he should ignore it...period. He should not acknowledge it and throw more insults ino the mix, this will only escalate things more and lead to more personal attacks, which is not only not professional, but also pointless and a great waste of his time and skills, IMHO.

BTW: With regards to the usual suspects always being the ones to be the "instigators" and "deserved" recepients of these insults, keep in mind what I said about this happenning to many people that have just either just joined AW or come back after a long absence away from the platform. These are not the "usual suspects" and this treatment of them is not good PR, anyway you slice it...Period!

*shrugs* I am a programmer. I don't claim to be proficient in customer service.

It's hardly "customer service", but rather PR (customer relations, promotion and pre-sales), that you're doing on behalf of the AOS4 team and Hyperion, whether official or not or even whether you like it or not by participating in these forums with regards to Hyperion and AOS4. This may suck, but you don't see Microsoft or Apple engineers talking in forums about their companie's future products, positions, visions, etc., whether officially or unnoficially in an unprofessional manner with the clients/potential clients without eventually being sacked. There's an obvious reason for the leash and musel that most companies put on all their employees, not just engineers, specially ones that develop, manufacture and eventually bring these products to market, and it's not just for secrecy.

In any case, enough said on the subject. In the end, you'll do what you feel is appropriate until such time as someone with any kind of legal or monetary power over you tells you otherwise...only, it might be too late by then, and in the meantime you won't be doing yourself, your team or Hyperion any good by building walls between your team and the remaining community - your clients / prospective clients.

Or you don't have to build those bricks any higher anymore, it's already high enough
for me. I won't put my money on anything that annoys the |-|ell out of me.
To |-|ell with it. Hyperion you lost me long ago with your tone towards your "supposed
to be customers". But I know you don't bother so both of us can be real happy then.

Yeah wathever....

Perhaps we should wake ourselves up a bit and realize that there are at most a couple of hundred people that use these web forums on a regular basis and there is no product to sell and anybody who is still here has already made up their mind. When someone "new" joins it is a celebrated event and anybody new will know how useless web forums are for information anyway--98% garbage. We really believe these web forums we live in are so very important sometimes. And yes, Rogue does have a boss so if it was as big a problem as we are trying to make it out to be it would have been dealt with a long time ago. See Niko's chain being yanked by bbrv for many examples.

Honestly, I think our comfortable chairs from which we spout out expert opinion are just a tad too comfortable. I include myself in this group because here I am spouting out some expert opinion from my comfortable chair with nothing to lose as well.

@elatour

At the end of the day you cant knock Rogue,
I see him as one of us,
He's a user and its his hobby as well as his job.
So whats the problem with him poping in here giving little status updates and advice?
At the end of the day, if he stayed away and said nothing people would be slating him for not saying anything!!! (Look at peoples attitude towards Amiga Inc, they went quiet and everyone hated them).
In this community it chaps like the Hyperion bros that keep it going, if nothing was said people would soon lose intrest and dissappear and without them we would have no OS4, no hope and before you say it, OS4 is going to be released for classic soon he's already said so.

@Anyone thinking of ripping into Hyperion

Why bother they mean well.
We are all frustrated, us OS4 users just as much as anyone without OS4, and
Hyperion even more than us!!!!!
I want to see more HW so more users can join in the OS4 fun and so the platform can grow.
We shouldnt squable and argue, we should unite together!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is pretty close-minded thinking.

IBM invented pc, IBM made OS/2.

So, OS/2 is true PC operating system and windows is not!??!

Noone?

And since when the number of users is an indicative of the quality of the product? Windows is 90% of the market and is not that good

Wrong comparison. Did Windows ever claim it would be "the one true OS/2"?

I dont bother if AROS or MorphOS claim to be real operating systems or not.
But when they would claim to be AmigaOS, that would be incorrect.
They may claim to be AmigaOS clones or AmigaOS compatible or AmigaOS emulators
or whatever, they may even claim they would be the better alternative to AmigaOS,
the first AmigaOS clone for PPC or the first AmigaOS clone for x86 or whatever,
but they are not AmigaOS and they should not claim to be (and IIRC they dont do
that, only some of their too enthusiastic users seem to do that).

This is a technical fact, no discussion can change that.
Even declaring this technical fact as "close-minded thinking" cant change it.
