@NutsAboutAmiga

Thx for the tip! It's much more usable now!

More Impressions :

- don't try the SDL games, they run at 4-5 fps,
- many programs complain about a missing "thread.library". Is it a must have?
- Univere's demos don't work.
- the BlizzardPPC becomes very hot very soon, so I have to open the case or the 1200 soon freezes.
- tried the FPC ported to OS4 by ChainQ. I works fine, though very slow for small projects. 17 seconds to compile 8 lines... In the other hand, it takes 17 seconds as well to compile a 2000 lines project... (Any new version of FPC planed, Karoly?)
- is there a way to define new screen resolutions? I set a basic 1280x1024 during the setup but would enjoy a 1600x1050 now...
- has Dietmar desappeared from the surface of the Earth? It seems that all possible webadress for GoldEd or CubicIDE are down...
- Will probably NOT try Quake3...
- Planet Potion doesn't work. Nor do Encore's demos. (No warpOS seem to work, or maybe I'm doing something wrong?)

Sort of, a newer version of it is now part of OS4 (pthread.library). But all programms still need the older version because we cant use the new one without a new SDK.

Check the Tooltypes of your Monitorfile in DEVS:Monitors.

No, only moved.

They work under different updates of OS4 but not under final.
Search "universe" as keyword on AW to read threads with more details.

It is probably this

Already discussed in much detail in other threads. WOS not supported under final. Also, it works better under OS3.x, so run it there.

yes it easy:

open devs:Monitors

select the videomonitor driver and press AMIGA + I, select the Icon tab.

a list like this shuld be found:

IGNOREMASK=Yes

Just add more MODE lines.

Yes they broke when Hyperion changed Pixel format for videodrivers,
i hope the Universe demos get updated.

WarpOS support is not part of OS4 for classic, only AmigaOS4 update 4 has that, final and July update does not.

As said in a Private Message, there is a french website dedicated to Amiga OS4 users: http://www.amiga-ng.org

Now, let's answer your questions

1° True, SDL games are slow. You can still try OpenTyrian (it uses 60% of A G3/800, you'll tell us how it works)

2°Download this: http://www.os4depot.net/share/development/library/misc/pthreads.lha

3° None of them work with OS4 Final Crisot did not release any patch. Some working:
http://www.os4depot.net/index.php?function=browse&cat=demo/scene/fit
http://www.os4depot.net/share/demo/scene/nls-stars.lha

4° Yes, since only the PPC is used all the time, it gets hot. Add a heater/fan on your PPC

5° I dont't really know all it is about since I'm not a programmer myself

6° Just add new modes in the tooltype of your monitor

7° I don't know

8° It is buggy nonetheless

9° There is no more WarpUP compatibility

You can read my french test of AmigaOS 4 Final (which was firstly published in AmigaPower) here

I hope that my answers will help you

I'm running it on a dedicated update#3 partition.
I think when people posted about update#4 previously, they meant to say that update#4 was the -last- update that had WOS support, -not- the only update.

There's a newer version of threads.library in the SDK.

@K-L

New = pthreads.library 52.2 (02.07.2007), part of OS4, maybe newer version in OS4Classic

Old = threads.library 1.5 (02.08.2005), needed by old programms, because developers have to wait for new SDK to use ptreads.library.

Maybe somebody should write a wrapper for it.

Glad to hear it! I don't think I'll try installing again until I get the BVision fixed (or try to fix it). Think I'll go order myself a soldering kit

Still, it's tempting to shove the Mediator back in with OS4 just sitting there...

I'm sure I tried everything I could think of to get it to boot and rid of that 'preferences' problem. The first time worked flawlessly. Don't know what changed... Ah well, will try another day.

Have fun!

are *not* part of the OS4 memory pool --> seems like only 2Mb chip mem. and 128Mb from my PPC card is there...is there reason for this?

Performance. Atleast the motherboard memory is dead slow (compared to the memory on the CSPPC). I think someone tried to use it as a disk cache, but it was more or less as slow as directly loading from disk.

@AmiDog

Would be nice to at least be able to have the option to use it...at least it could be put into a low priority access when the ppc mem. is almost gone or something.

@my_pc_is_amiga

the mobo RAM is anyway in a lower priority compared with the CSPPC one.

The reason is elsewhere

@stevieu

I managed to duplicate your error.
Happend when there was something in the partition I was trying to install into.

It was empty apart from the trashcan from a previous installation.
The previous installation had been moved into the trashcan.

Every time I tried to install into this partition, I got the same error as yourself.

I formatted the whole partition with MediaToolbox, carried on with the installation, and the problem went away.

Hi all,
I managed to get my A4000 back to life. The problem was due to a broken SCSI-wide cable: these are very fragile compared to ordinary ribbon cables!

Now I am trying some HW: ICY (the I2C zorro2 interface) seems to work well!

Tested the Prelude soundcard (not indicated in compatibility list): the init command works, but the PrlCheck (diagnostic) command locks when playing a test sound.

Anybody has had similar experiences?

Is there a thread for software compatibility?

Regards
Stefano

I also tested ScanTek with a Microtek 636 SCSI scanner connected to an A2091 board with GuruROMs: worked flawlessly! Great work!
