Fortunately my cooling system alarm, bleeped for me!

How do you monitor the CPU temp? By an external sensor? I found CPUTemp.docky 52.14 but when run, there`s an "Untested CPU" error...

P.S. I got a CSPPC, that is 604e (listed as untested, but not unsupported?!)

There exists Documentation/Kickstart/CDFileSystem.doc
which mentions that UDF is now supported.

Is that a new feature of OS4 Classic?
In the last A1 version CDMRW:, DVD-RW:, DVD+RW: and CDRW: are limited to use SFS as filesystem.

My CDRW/CDMRW mountlist device has as FS L:SmartFileSystem Is the UDF intergraded to the sfs?
Anyhow, I cannot format a CDRW disk with my IDE CDRW drive (slave on the mobo IDE)... I hope this to be related with the CybSCSI problem (even if it is a different controller/device )

P.S. Under 3.9 with MakeCD works perfectly (atapi.device)!

The last time i have checked there was only support for udf 1.x (not 2.x) reading in CDFileSystem. The CDRW:, CDMRW:, DVD-RW: and DVD+RW: Devices really used SFS. Thats why i asked if it is a new feature.

You have to lowlevel-format the disc once with SYS:System/FormatCDRW.

@Spirantho
What we need is not an excuse for odd behaviour in the OS, we need a place where we as users can report problems as specifically as possible to held the people behind the OS fix the bugs. OS 4 is a superb OS - it's an amazing job. But it's not perfect and unless we the users are listened to it'll never mature!

Never was a truer word spoken, as long as you don't include the bit about OS4 being superb, as it certainly is not on an A1200 with a PPC card and Mediator.

I have an A1200 with a Mediator SX, Voodoo 3 3000 card, and with OS4 that's all of the PCI cards I can supposedly use. OS4 maybe great on an A1 or any other of the pre-release boards, but OS4 for the user of an A1200 Classic PPC board with Mediator is not any where near usable enough to currently be considered worthy of release.

The other PCI Mediator cards are made useless, such as Spider 2 USB2, Soundblaster 128, Ethernet RTL8139 NIC, Hauppauge Bt878 TV/FM card, not even the SCSI on my PPC card is available. The 3Com 589 Ethernet PCMCIA card locks up my system, even though I have the CC/RESET adapter fitted. I cannot realistically use OS4, and it is not worth trying another way of disabling something else, or something else, or fiddling with this part of the OS or that part of the OS, to install OS4 as I cannot use the NET with it. Seeing my CHIPRAM used up on an AGA screen, because the Voodoo card locks up with OS4, though only having a basic background is not what I was waiting 4 or more years for.

I did write a message to ACUBE to info@acube.com, though their e-mail address may have changed as their website has been hosted at a new address. So don't quote this address without checking it first. Yes I did get a reply, which was some help, but not enough to want to try to install OS4 again, but I have had no reply from Hyperion at all.

As you rightly point out there should be a support section. I think it should be on Hyperion's, and Acube's, or a link from one of them to the other, sites offering support specifically for Classic OS4, seeing as they together have released it.

I have registered my copy, but even now over a month after release with many known problems there is still no update(s) available anywhere, as far as I am aware to resolve these problems.

To me, at the moment, this is the worst Amiga OS release I have used.

I liked OS3.0, OS3.1, OS3.5, & in particular OS3.9, but I have put OS4 to one side as I cannot bear to mess about with it anymore at the moment as it is so frustrating, getting nowhere.

At the moment OS5 (vapourware) is almost as good as OS4 (freezerware) for my A1200 Amiga PPC towered machine.

I'd really prefer to not be thinking this about OS4, but it's the truth for the moment. I only hope there is some light at the end of this very very long tunnel.

@Klowna

I'm in the same situation. I haven't bought AOS4 yet, but I'll do it in the same second as Elbox or someone releases stable (I don't care if they are hacky by nature) drivers that are as compatible as 3.x ones.

@Klowna

You could always use the current Elbox drivers in the meantime.
Will get you USB and Ethernet cards working although not sound.
Well I couldn't get the sound card I have to work.

ad it is why i have asked for a specific doc for this new feature (a great one IMHO)

We need to use the FormatCDRW tool to format the CDRW/CDMRW and NOT the system Format command... heck!

@Framiga

"repulse.a.main"

#?.1.main is interface for PowerPC programs.

Iit's used when you have old 68k library, and like to use it whit whit native PowerPC program.

Why not ask the author of the Repulse driver?

That`s exactly what I did. A quick format (by the FormatCDRW tool) makes the CDRW disk unreadable and then I `m not able to format the disk. The error pops up on the very first sector.
I`ll double check this later this evening.

@Framiga

Heh, ok. But therefore we have a compatibility list and the Repulse is listed as not compatible. There are no plans to support it in the sense of an OS4 native driver.

What about the Prelude, then? AFAIK it is one of the few Zorro boards with digital audio 24bit / 96kHz input/output capability... (with Arpeggiator addon)

@stefanor

We don't have the source code or schematics to the 'classic' sound cards. And it should really be up to the sound card manufacturers to make an OS4 driver.

So, I have mounted CDRW and CDMRW, I insert a burnt CDRW disk. On the WB screen there are 2 icons (CDMRW & CDRW) marked as unreadable, plus a third one CD0: which appears as an audio cd (the tracks I`ve burnt with no problems).
When I launch the FormatCDRW utility, I have 2 options : "Quick Format" and "Blank Disk" (the other options are ghosted).
I select "Blank Disk". After a few seconds watching the progress bar filling, I get the previous options ghosted, and the "Format CD-RW" available.
The 2 volumes are still unreadable. I select the "Format CD-RW", but nothing happens! I get an "Error" message where the progress bar should be.

P.S. The same happens if I select CDMRW as a device...
