Whilst I have absolutely no qualms about AmigaOS4 being ported to another platform, you can bet that the people who will most be rubbing their hands with glee are the same ars***les which go and put Amiga book manuscripts up on bit torrent.

I wonder how much money will flow back to the OS4 Developers from this, next to nothing I'd wager, it will just be the pirated version already doing the rounds on Bit Torrent. Scum!

Well I for one will be paying for my copy.
There will always be >1% of a community that done want to pay for somthing that would be worthwhile just ask microsoft
My thoughts are that most amigans realise that we are so blessed to have os4 in the first place and do the right thing.
I of all ppl should be bitter and ####ed off. my amiga Dealer ran off with $1000au of my own cash.
but im not.

I look at it this way. if i get an ibook and run os4 succcesfully on it(already aa purchased copy of 0s4, Iĺl send the author (whoś work was stolen )the cash - for work _other_ ppl have done. hows that.

Well, since the administration has about the same technical merits as a 10 year old, with the average understanding about the community, needs, and management as a 2 year old, this is the only hope the amigaone version will ever get.

Not sure what you mean, but if you mean "because I can't buy the software from a retailer, I am allowed to download it for free" then that still counts as piracy.

If you make a patch for the retail version for Classic Amiga, and the patch isn't derived from copyrighted/stolen sources, then that would be legal (although there might be an EULA part prohibiting to run OS4 for Classic on other machines). I don't know how such a patch would be feasible, though.

I think he means "it's not piracy if I buy a retail copy (classic version) and then patch it."

That puts it in the same field as the OSx86 project.

Im not defending piracy at any means, but the amigaone version will probably never be available to buy, so the only legal(ish) way of running os4 is buying the classic version. Then patching that, or if you have continence enough, then go pirat it,. Atleast you've done all you can to support the devs.

I am sorry but I can see nothing on the screen : we can't read the output text and then we just see a blue screen. How do you identify the loader as the OS4 one ?

You realise the OS4 bootloader doesn't work on the iBook G4?

It only works on 1.33ghz or 1.5ghz PowerPC Mac Mini's... and they have to have 64mb VRAM too...

Lucklily enough I bought my Mini at just the right time...

I'd imagine a fair few people would buy OS4 if they were able to run it on something. I for one would buy it in a shot if I thought I could run it on *any* hardware I could buy. Even if there are 100 sold, and 900 pirated, that's 100 more sales than they'd get if it didn't happen. Far better than nothing whatever way you look at it.

I must have missed the bit where they explain that it was a pirated copy. My first assumption would be that this is a copy of OS4 that came with an A1 that failed. My second assumption would be that it came from ACube, they've been selling OS4 for a few months now on their website, you know? Sure, it could be a pirated copy, and this could very well be a picture of the world's smallest violin --> -
