It's "Ben's Own Graphics Library". However I couldn't find any reference to the error message yet.

How about dumping the kernel on the Yellowdog install CD to a floppy disk and boot from it? Then you can setup the a1boot.conf file and use the SLB to boot Linux.

I never created a boot CD under AmigaOS4. Hypex, can you help out here?

The exact msg I got was:

bogl: dont know screen type 4

Can you try it out again with "debian-installer/framebuffer=false" added to the boot options for Linux?

The easiest way would be to use AmiDVD but I don't know how to make a bootable CD with it. It has ticks for OS4 and UBoot but I see no where to put a bootloader so I don't know how it would work with a kernel.

This should work using MakeCD and specifying a UBoot image in the right place.
http://www.intuitionbase.com/static.php?section=en_Boot-CD

Sorry for the delay answering. Perhaps I should email Joerg for info or make a thread. Might just do that.

Apart from that I could locate instructions on how I make the UBootable ISO's myself. For starters, mkimage and mkisofs will need to be downloaded off OS4Depot. Then the commands used in this format:

Quote:
mkimage -A ppc -O linux -T multi -C none -a 0x0 -e 0x0 -n "Debian Install" -d kernel-2.6.16.49.img:initrd iso/boot/boot.img
mkisofs -no-emul-boot -r -b boot/boot.img -c boot/boot.cat -o bootcd.iso iso

This uses an "iso" dir sitting in the current dir to store the root of the CD files. And will make a bootcd.iso in the current dir. All t hat needs to be changed are the kernel and the ramdisk image.

Now, does this help us along?

Just asking for curiosity.

How is Lenny performing (if at all), on the A1?

It feels a lot more stable than Etch. Except for the fact that the X.org radeon graphics driver doesn't initialize some graphic cards correctly (namely 92xx ) in DVI mode, which makes the desktop unusable (screen flickering).

Hi!
I finally got working the installer...
I've to set my memory to 256 mb from UBoot...
Dunno why... but in that way it works...
Now I've got a new problem...
setting the:

root=/dev/hdb2(that was my "/" partition)

on UBoot Linux Boot parameters, when doing the reboot to complete the installation, the kernel go to panic and rebopot because cant mount the root device...
Dunno why...I've to investigate deeper...

However the installer works now...better than nothing...

Did you install woody now? You may check, if all the lib*-mesa libraries are installed (except for *dev and *dbg packages, which are only for development).

HI!
the:

debian-installer/framebuffer=false

option dont do nothing here...
The only thing I can do to can install debian was limit the memory to 256 MB...
No it dont need anymore when boot the installed system...weirdo...

For Blender:
Now I'm on my grilfried's pc...
These evening I'll try out your suggestion...
Maybe you can tell me the correct apt-get package to install plz?
My apt-get config file point only to:

deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ sarge main contrib non-free

right?

And also...the kernel I use was the one installed with the debian woody installer I donwloaded from your site...
I've also updated the Xfree server because without the update my Radeon9250 card wont work...

PS I remember that the OpenGL wont work some year ago when firstly tryed debain on my A1...now ti works well?

Oh, I don't have a Debian Sarge machine at hand right now. I can take a look at my old Sarge system tomorrow.

That should be fine.

You should switch to the 2.6.8 kernel. You can install it in parallel with the 2.4.x kernel, if you use the SLB. Then you have a fallback, if it doesn't work for you.

I guess you did a dist-upgrade to Sarge, right? Then your Radeon9250 should work, if you change the driver entry in XF86Config-4 from "ati" to "radeon".

Actually I don't know. I'm not sure what the requirements for OpenGL are. Can you remember what the problem was at that time?

@Geri

after pointing apt-get to:

Quote:
deb http://archive.debian.org/debian/ sarge main contrib non-free

I've done:

apt-get update

apt-get upgrade

than changed video driver to radeon installed blender and the latest TheGimp...

The problem with Blender was that it crashes the XFree server and it logout...
than I've to relaunch it...

@Tuxedo

I may be stating the obvious, but is DRI disabled in X configuration (typing in OS4 so no details now)?

Generally a distribution upgrade is done with "apt-get dist-upgrade".

I'll try it out on my machine. But Blender will not work, if it requires hardware graphics acceleration.

DRI = Direct Rendering Infrastructure (hardware graphics acceleration)

DRI doesn't work on the A1.
