Hemm yes does look like audio.device is a easier way to create audio output, I just read the SDK.
I think Audio.device can be useful for me

| Here are the results from my Amigas (all tests were done in 320x200):
DoomAttack
A1200 030/50Mhz 32Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 8481 realtics (8.8 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb (Optimised 020 C2P) - 18971 realtics (3.9 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb (Optimised Akiko C2P) - 12872 realtics (5.8 fps)
ADoom
A1200 030/50Mhz 32Mb - 9133 realtics (8.2 fps) Amiga CD32 68020/14Mhz 8Mb - 16294 realtics (4.6 fps)
I tried it again on the A1200/030, this time in Low-Detail mode, and got these results:
DoomAttack - 6525 realtics (11.4 fps) ADoom - 7029 realtics (10.6 fps)
So as you can see, Low-Detail is faster and smoother, DoomAttack is faster than ADoom on 020 and 030, and the Akiko chip in the CD32 is actually quite useful for 3D games!

And it works on all AmigaOS versions.

Well given the code is already in there and works in DoomAttack it must be an issue with ADoom itself. So you shouldn't need to do much audio programming. Unless ADoom only doesn't like my machine! |

| Could someone tell me how to get DoomAttack to display the FPS with the realtics? Only ADoom displays the final FPS for me.
Also, is there a way in ADoom to select an Akiko C2P routine so my CD32 can run it a bit smoother, and be comparable to DoomAttack? _________________ Get AmigaOS for your PC, it's FREE and comes in two flavours!

number of FPS:
gametics / realtics * 35
eg: 2134 / 8481 * 35 = 8.8 FPS
Akiko and ADoom - probably not. |

ADoom includes an Akiko c2p function...
If you find DoomAttack sources or you know the author please upload the sources to Aminet so DoomAttack code can be integrated with ADoom.
BTW, for gfx cards there was an ADoom variant called EDoom, IIRC it was compiled with GCC and designed for gfx cards.
BTW... would it be possible to create an ADoom that shuts down the system? I guess that c2p speed may improve with full control of the machine. _________________ The only spanish amiga news web page/club: CUAZ |

If you remove OS code from ADoom, why not.

| Can't remember which Port and WAD I used, but I managed to get the Doom demo running on my A1200 '060/50, 64MB RAM. Couldn't get the sound to work, but the frame rate was fine, full-screen, at least 15fps IIRC.
Managed to get the demos of Heretic and Hexen to work as well, WITH sound, including speech. "Greetings, mortal! Are you ready to die?" Frame rate was just as good. _________________ SEX SUX

ADoom 0.5 (8 Jan 1998) has working sound on AmigaOS4, found it on CUAMIGA CD I went mad trying to connect the dots to my Doom collection. Do you know if this will run in A1-EUAE or should it only run on Classic? It recommends at least 68030 cpu. _________________

I would like to publish our results somewhere on the net (maybe on Aminet). If there is anybody against it, I will not include his results. I will wait for (negative) replies until April 4.
Thanks for your cooperation. |

| After my experiments with DosBox 0.74 for AGA there is comparison to other PC emulators for Amiga (all on AGA) - with help of The Doom Benchmark:
DosBox 0.74 (NovaCoder) - 6679 realtics (11.1 FPS) PCTask 4.40 Dynamic - 2302 realtics (32.4 FPS)
PCX gives strange values (78 realtics..., perhaps timing issuses), seems to be slower than PCTask and as fast as DosBox.
All on same hardware (Core i5-2500K 3.3 GHz, WinUAE 2.4.1).
Conclusion: PCTask is the fastest among them, but DosBox is most stable, user friendly and compatible.
