@amigauser

I wonder if it was fairly reviewed?

Cheers

I have not seen the movie. I don't know if it is a comedy, but I suspect there are parody elements.

I would imagine it is just a parody of the preposterousness of the Mac notebook saving the world in the movie "Independence Day". In comedic terms it's like, lets find an even lamer computer to save the world with. They probably could have gotten the same effect with a C64, like the Russians were using to monitor their nuclear reactor in StarWreck. I don't mean to be a spoilsport or negative and I am sorry to rain on anyone's parade, but this is probably not the best advertising an Amiga can have.

Although, I do think it's cool, and I probably will watch the movie for the Amiga aspect alone. But that is just me.

Judging from the reviews on imdb, the movie is not really worth watching.

"Hard to put into words just how bad this film is."
"Disastrous Nonsense"
"Disaster movie turns out to be a disaster!"

I usually find the worse the review, the better the film, the ones that have millions spent on hype are all special effects and no story. I watched the film before reading the reviews, and I was not disapointed. You see, it's all a matter of personal tastes, was not too bad a film, did not need the Amiga references to make it a good film, that's just for the benefit of us geeks

@polka. & @Thread

Definitely not a first class cinematic experience.... But not a waste of time either IMO.

I watched it and enjoyed it. If you are short on time, and very selective about what you watch, definitely skip it. Otherwise, just go in with the right expectations. It is a "made-for-SciFi" disaster melodrama, so don't expect big budget actors or animation... It is not a parody, and does take itself seriously.

It does make a feeble attempt to deal with some serious Physics (i.e. Dark Matter, m-theory, quarks, stranglings etc.) I'm sure Edward Witten would be insensed, but if you aren't interested in picking the psuedo-science apart, there is an interesting premise behind it.

I think they must have been talking about strangelets when they started describing "strangelings" but it was nice to see Chiana explaining it.

I enjoyed the movie, I went in with low expectations (as anyone should with such a low budget film) and was entertained through to the end. It was really cool seeing an autistic guy with his Amiga save the world. I have a feeling the script was written by an Amiga user, probably about ten years ago or so and only just got made recently. The president (Londo!) seemed to be based on Bill Clinton, with the First Lady being disappointed in him, expecting another scandal when he tells her the bad news.

It was refreshing that the threat to the earth wasn't just another hunk of rock or ice that could be blown up, but it seems the solution wasn't too dissimilar.

Most people disliked it because it is yet another Apocalypse (End of the World) movie, and there are a lot already. This have nothing to do with the Amiga.

Yep, the end of the world as we know it, and I'd feel fine, if it guaranteed the end of Microsoft too.

Can't say I'm a fan of disaster movies either. Aristides Castiglioni's Amiga Legacy had a better story, inspired by the true story of the Amiga's turbulent history.

Eek! I was too embarrassed to watch that for more than a few seconds!

Maybe I should film myself singing that Amiga-ised version of Eye of the Tiger I wrote!

I read this review at IMDB

Quote:

"Awful beyond comprehension" does not even begin to explain..., 29 January 2010
1/10
Author: StaRe from Sweden

There is really no other way for me to express what this movie is than this: A disaster movie where the only real disaster is the movie itself.

When reading the other reviews of this movie I thought to myself "Well, when a movie is bad enough I can usually laugh at it for being so bad and have a good enough time watching it anyway" and so I decided to see this with my own eyes. I implore you, dear reader, NOT to repeat my mistake! There is not enough alcohol, nitrous gas or low standards on the surface of the entire planet for anyone to find any enjoyable aspect in this movie at all.

Alphabetical order of flawed elements. Just because I want everyone to understand how bad this is.

Actors - The best ones are simply bad, the rest are horrible. Some of them at least make a bit of an effort.

Cameras and angles - Static shooting almost all the way, but it's actually not that bad compared to when the cameras move. In one scene where a character is driving, you'd think they bolted a $50 VHS camera to the hood and had him actually drive around with that.

Computer effects - You can easily spot them, if the graphic Ultra Low quality doesn't tip you off, the absence of the laws of physics will. Many movies from the 90's had Better computer generated effects. Even some of the Bad movies.

Other effects - I could not find a single one that was just slightly low-budget or just had a mild flaw. Every last one was flat out bad.

Script - Someone should be unemployed by now...

The rest - You probably already get the picture.

Summary: Gather your neighbors and have the most stupid one write the script, the most incompetent one manage effects, the ones with the worst poker faces be the actors and finally let someone with impaired motor skills handle the camera and you will make a masterpiece compared to this. Unfortunately I'm not joking.

Not exactly glowing. Pah, must have been an Atari fan

Seriously though, that doesn't sound good...

@Akiko

Just for laughs

Slightly better singing (YOUTUBE LINK)

Although the singing is not me, I wrote the words, did the audio engineering and editing, and the video production (which is not that brilliant, but was my 1st test for CromaKey (AKA Bluescreen, even though the Bluescreen was actually green, but that's another story)

Oh yeah, it's me doing the lip-syncing to the song.

Yeah, I used to be, at one point I was on there quite a lot when I wanted a break from Amiga work

Myself and a friend have made a complete CD of songs all about scammers and scam baiting, all availble to download for if anyone would like the links.

I watched it on Sci-Fi last night...

Complete tripe of course, but worth watching the Rainman-esque character utter the classic line... "superior operating system"

For the most part of the film he spends much of his time with his A4000 (video toaster sticker on the front I might add) clutched to his chest.

Put simply, as the original poster said, the Amiga saves Planet Earth.

Unadulterated genius!

@amigauser

I just came upon this movie yesterday on youtube
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7uQPLweCYE
I found it to be quite entertaining and especially enjoyed that it featured an Amiga.
