I'm not your friend. Yes, this is my opinion, based on 12 years of experience with webdesign.

i don't care what you do for living (you are an arrogant person, face it) and yes the only thing i agree with you is that i'm not your friend.

Well, could you tell me what was the reason? I don' t really see how using some big Majordomo like system to subscribe people onto mailing list is more "simple, minimalistic" than having this orange box in your location bar that will feed your News reader of choice informations about A-Eon.

You can have your personal taste, that's all well and good. But there are some rules when it comes to design. One could like Comic Sans but he won't get love from typography geek.

See above.

I'm tired of people who have 125zillion years in experience in [put in whatever you like] and are so-called professionals. The whole "community" seem to be established from all those top-experienced high-professional people.

I - as a customer, managing our suppliers of code and content for the multi-billion dollar company I work for - have to deal with this people all day long ... all of them have a "opinion". Especially about things *we* need. Most of them fail. Go figure.

@opi: Maybe the site isn´t following design-rules, but I don´t care, because I want to buy hardware from A-EON, not a website or a website--design

I suppose you can't please everyone

No matter how hard I try (and no matter how hard I advocate AmigaOS 4.1), I can't like the "design" of the A-Eon website. As you point out, you really can't please everyone. That's true. But then again, the AmigaOS community isn't really comprised with art critics. In fact, most current AmigaOS users seem to praise just about anything drawn with more than 4 colors.

The simple fact is that from a designer's point of view, the A-Eon website leaves much to be desired. It doesn't look anything like the Web 2.0-ish designs you'd expect from a startup-company in 2010. The current scheme looks bloated, clumbersome and anything but light - and on top of that, plain childish.

All in all, whoever made the page should start over from scratch. A-Eon, Hyperion and the AmigaOS community deserve the best of the best - don't you think?

Also I need to stress that the site looks great.
One of the greatest Amiga related site I have ever seen in my life!

Perhaps the most beutifull Amiga web site ever.

(and on the next update, make it perfect, design wise, etc.)

Well I'm glad you said all you did already. It means I don't have to. Me and my 8 years of Multimedia Design experience agree with you.

Quick question for everyone: Where is the first place you look when reading a page of text?

(question based on the fact that the majority of this sites users are from the west)

@Petah

Hmm... you mean Web 2.0-ish design using bloated flash animations (still not really viewable with e.g. OWB on OS4), lots of clumsy menus, childish "information" texts missing the vital information and some? Well yes, then youre right.

If you mean some design that was made with fun in mind and hand, youre wrong. Thats what I see in this page design. Maybe its getting less funny with time, as the X1000 project evolves, but thats a thing for the future. And a matter of taste.

I would have expected nothing else considering you are the source. Such a statement probably doesn't violate the TOS here. But it surely is predictable coming from you.

Perhaps more of a commentary on your iPhone and its software?

It works fine on my Samsung even with it's now dated version of Android, while I wait for Android 2.1 to be available from Sprint. Admittedly, the OS4 window resize button is not very useful on a phone screen except at extreme magnification. But since AmigaOS is aimed at the desktop, Perhaps that wasn't the main concern for the site designers?

Yep. Same here. I just pointed out flaws.

...in general, not thightly related to the site. So it might be off-topic. Or not. Depends. As always.

By the way, just for the records, I'm not that convinced by that site, either.

@Rooster

Well, from left to right and top to bottom. The text used on that page is indeed sorted this way. The "gimmicks" (Media and additional info not all visitors may be interested in) are placed in the bottom right and labeled clear and understandable.

Nothing wrong here... maybe its time to think about the design "rules" you learned?

I mean, think about the fact that "design" is no matter of "rules", but a matter of taste in a specified period of time? Design itself is in a flow, it was in a flow and will ever be. If design is dependend on "rules" at some point, it becomes engineering. This is a quite different field, as engineering doesnt define good design -> taste of a period of time.

I think you are well out of order to report Opi over the comments he's made in the thread.

While I sometimes feel that his posts are questionable, I don't believe it is the case here. I quite liked the site myself, but he is certainly right that the workbench style windows are a novelty, while I think they are cool, I am not entirely sure they are appropriate for that particular site. The point he made about having to fiddle about resizing the windows is certainly a valid one .

first (no offence) but is not up to you to decide what i have to report or not.

Secondly, there are other ways to express opinions (like others did) while opi' remarks were plain baiting (like other times by him).

I'm not even clear how some people find this design appropriate from the standpoint of presentation or content. A clean, professional landing page with a footer providing contact information would have been more than enough for the time being.

Perhaps a few people will be motivated enough to provide suggestions on alternatives. A contest would even be fun.
