@DAX

You sounds like you first time on amiga. Who will write mail to Hyperion about asking more themes ? You ?:) Will you lucky enough to have answers when they totally busy ?

Who will in hyperion for today (when they worring about classic release, x1000, and update3), will worring about creating of a polls , in which choice "theme" ?

They (hyperion) just make their decission close , in their closed-room of hyperion voters only. Its will be always "not close enough to users", and you will always have hard time when you will want to contact about some low-priority (like themes polls) stuff.

If you want thinks more "close to ppls", the best choice will be AROS. There you can include all what you want right now, just yourself :)

@kas1e
They can team up with AOS4 loving professionals like imago.
There was this thread a while back called "AOS4 main theme needs an overhaul" (or something similar I don't recall the exact phrase) where imago showed us a page with several ideas for future workbench (not only the light-up theme that he later published) now's the scoop: Rogue participated in, telling imago he liked his stuff, after a while that page disappeared (not imago's themes page, but the one with the different suggestions, including a stunning looking new dock).
For me something is boiling for 4.2...

Of course they can do that and that, but we not Hyperion, so its can be now just one more talks about nothing and "if else when who" :) Let's revert to topic :)

@all
Some progress on mui-owb:

-- Yesterday Deniil fix 2 bugs:
: tabs works fine in all conditions (open, open in background)
: close gadget now as in latest screenshot

And now we start to worring about the major bugs:
-- deniil worring about trashed names when do save as html / save as pdf / download as (looks like some kind of memory corruption)
-- i am got serial cable, so will try to catch up that "random strange crashes after a while"

if my post 562's "hunch" isn't right we should (make a poll I mean) as soon as they show some screens of the future "commercial" update.

@kas1e
I don't want to continue with OTs () so back on topic as you say:

Great! this must be the fastest progressing development ever!

Agree. I don't like these Windoze close buttons either. A bright red button with a white 'X', what's that about, really?!

I think Amiga should continue using ther own close buttons. Doesn't necessarily have to be the kind of vague window close buttons. But I like the ReAction-OWB tab close buttons. Much more Amiga than these stupid red X'es.

At least if we insist of having a red button with a white X, the do something with the shape. Round with an 'X', or completely square with an 'X'. Or square with an 'O'.

@all

Kas1e considers these things (close gadgets) trivial and I do too, I wasn't expecting so many replies back about it.

Ps. Those traffic lights are from Mac OS X. ;p

Off-topic: I'd be interested to see how well OWB handles my 'still in-development' AmigaOS pages, feedback welcome.

@djrikki

latest opera version shows only a big black area with surrounding boing-ball design and at the
top the navigational bar. Scrolling the black area to the bottom, reveals "Customize your Worbench"
with some background pictures.

I guess, it should not look like this black nothing? :)

@Deniil715

Well even latest Codebench use this kind of close gadget

http://codebench.co.uk/docs/images/autodocviewer.jpg

I don't understand why some of you will consider this as a "Windows style", there is no Windows at all in a simple PNG image, of course i can understand 100% if you say "i don't like it" or so ...

Aniway the GUI is completely skinnable so when it's done for the mass anyone can create it's own skin, there is no problem at all

@djrikky

Your site handles the same as in reaction-owb in mui-owb (but i not test it deeply, just do few visits some time ago). Should to add that backgrounds images mostly suck (all those "eat our boing balls , right in your face"). Only few are good (amiboing.de ones, and 1-2 others) :)

@samo79

Close button in the codebench looks imho better and more "amiga-like", i think we need to use that one :)

Ug... tested in IE, Safari and FireFox. Opera seems to be out on a limb.

How annoying...

Because windows was first to use this X as close button AFAIK, and WinXP made it red and white. Then it suddenly became "standard" and "not windowsy at all". Linux has it everywhere I believe (after WinXP introduced them), but most distros want to be windows anyway...

@djrikki

just tested it with firefox (again on linux).

It still seems to be broken, although you don't have to scroll to find the "customize your workbench" area. The background is still a big black area but with black bars reaching into the boing ball design at the right hand.

The icons on the "app"-page look "zoomed" and worse than in Opera (Opera seem to smooth them better).

Lol yet in FireFox 3.6.13 for Mac it appears as intended.

Post a screenshot if you can.

I think the close button should be not the most important thing in this project ;)

But here my thougts:

A Button has to wait for an action of the user. If you look for instance at a browser window. The most important thing is the website, so what you can do with it, what actions you need... the first things are the adress-line, the buttons to navigate. after this there are the tabs. so the tabs should visual behind the whole navigation.... and than if you get closer to a tab, what is the last thing you do with it? close it.... but is just the last, the minor thing you do with a tab. Primary you work with it, with the content, the website, the navigation of the website.... (it is terrible to write for me in english , hope you understand ;) )

If you do some design you should not just look what looks cool (the close button of a tab), you also must look what priority it has. If you look at the Codebench screen and the Netsurf screen, then the first thing i see are the close buttons of the tabs.. but is it the most important thing? I think no... it is the last thing you do with the page... close it...

I prefer to bring this buttons more to background. If you look at Firefox, Internetexplorer and other Browsers, the close buttons of Tabs have nearly nothing to say, they work visual in background compared to the other controls. In firefox they have no borders/frames -> Mouse over, then there is a frame to see... so if you want to close, go on it with the mouse -> you will get visual pointed to the button. But while working with the webpage, it appears in background... So it should be ;)

Summary: no red X button, if X, than a light/gray less vissible X without frame. Or better, the Standard Close thing from OS4 (http://amiboing.de/data/themes/1/screen4.jpg , perhaps a little bit less visible...)

Hope this is not to much off topic.

@Topic: Nice work, hope for a Reaction based Version (dislike MUI ;) )

Best regards,

imagodespira

Here's how it looks on my MorphOS OWB... and how I've customized MUI settings for it, not for everyone's taste I guess :)

Is that possible to move the navigation buttons (back, fowrward, reload, stop, ...) just before the address url at the same line?

The address URL input should adapt its width in order to use the available space in between the buttons and the google search area on the right. Who cares if I cannot see the whole URL text!

It would save a lot of space!

See example (fake mockup):

@imagodespira
I really like your os4 theme, and I've adopted it!
Hope the default OS4 gui will change, at least putting as a default value 1 for the left, right and bottom width border of the window.
Small things that could help looking a bit less 80's the whole system.

@virgolamobile

Yep i posted the same request to Fab (some pages ago in this thread), also it would be possible to save more extra space just moving the "addtab" gadget to the bottom (on the right side of the tabs as the Reaction version) and/or removing optionally the main throbbler as OWB-MUI already support animated throbbler in tabs during loading

Aniway i feel that in future release we will have more options to configure the various UI elements

A small and simple button for close tab could be cool too.
