A tool to backup and restore non OS files and fonts in Sys: would be nice though.

there is non need to copy non-system fonts to sys:
except sobj files you can usually copy all of them to another partition and use multi-assigns.
at least this is how it should be handled. that makes updates much easier.

It has been now confirmed by m3x on Iksnet that USB2 support (i.e. the ehci driver) will be included in update3. I guess I'll order a PCI USB2 interface soon :)

Woohoo! Unexpected, but really cool if true (I await official confirmation from Hyperion).

@update

"A majority of the USB issues have also been addressed."

Says it all really. USB2.0 will be much improved shortly and hooray OWB-MUI or whatever it is going to be called will be here soon after followed by the biggie FireFox.

This looks promising also

Hmm if you call "bug fixes" and "usb2 support" "new features" in 2011 maybe os4 should hang it up. Aos 3.x has had usb2 since years now.. so not really a good argument imho

I'm thrilled with the current communication with the user base and now seemingly much more organized developer network. This is the way to go..

If someone wants to know how to enable tabbing and history with the new console/shell: go and download GfxBench2D. Inside the package someone can find something like this:

WINDOW=CON:50/50/600/350/AmigaShell/CLOSE/HISTORY/TABBED

:) I just in hope, that new console handler and related stuff, will give us more than just that :)

Awesome ! Strange why ssolie not write it cleary on blog like "usb1.1 bugs was fixed, and usb2.0 will be available", but if m3x say that its already included and in testing, then i think we will have usb2.0 as well.

Varthall, can you also ask him about new shell ? Maybe it also will be in update3 :)

@kas1e

Well am tired reading convoluted predictions when everything will be available. Why not just keep it short and sweet, eg?

Update 3, MUI-OWB, TW next month
4.2 key features previewed at AmiWest in October
4.2 later this year or early 2012.

Thats my prediction.

I am tired to read that someone tired to read convoluted predictions when everything will be available. Ask hyperion, they know everything for sure :)

@realize

While I also believe USB2 is very overdue to OS4, I think you'll find that OS3.x doesn't support any USB at all - it's only through 3rd party driver software and hardware that it can. And in these cases, there's been no technical reason to stop a 3rd party developing USB 2.0 hardware and/or software for OS4. It just wouldn't be worthwhile for anyone to take on such a project...

Intentionally or not, realize completely missed the point I was trying to make. No need to perpetuate his error.

@tommysammy

Yeah seriously so much cynicism around here. Trevor said a long time ago once the Beta boards are out there and if no major problems are found the X1000 will be out the door within a matter of weeks. Hence why I believe August will be a joyous month for everyone both in terms of new hardware and OS/software releases and other 'stuff'.

So, the long and the short of this thread is that noone really knows what's in Update 3 and that it's still all speculation.

People, including myself, are just so excited that there is an update coming.

Keep your SYS: partition RELIGIOUSLY clean from from ANY third-parties files and you can sleep peacefully. Just make a separate partition and put those files in proper directories in there.

A how-to you can find here. After installing a new iteration of the OS (like the upcoming Update 3), and making MINOR adjustments to that install, you're up and running and fully customised within half an hour!

sobjs' are subject to the SOBJS: assign, so you can have them on a separate partition in their own directory as well. The multiAssign will do the trick and maybe you may put MARvel to good use.
