@amigang

Very cool. Nice to see some interesting products coming our way. As this is from ACube we know it is going to be decent.

oh, thank you for another "what is x? to be released soon" thread.

This is very likely to come to fruition on the date on the add. The X1000 is getting here - but the schedule was waaay too optimistic. I cannot see this happening with this product.

@thread

my guess is either an updated minimig or a new case. we don't really have much to go on, other than it appears it is related to the amiga and the number '500.'

@eliyahu

Something which costs 500 quid or even 500 euros maybe?

@amigang

A X500 would be great and makes a lot of sense. A computer ala A500/1200. It wouldn't be a laptop but something portable and fun. A smaller and cheaper Amiga is really needed. I would love to have one of those.

Problems that I see with a laptop would be the screen, should it be an expansive one that makes the price go through the roof or a cheaper model that would make people complain but lower the price? It can't be changed so that's a problem.

Battery time and whatever software would need to be written to monitor it. Is it easy to make the battery to last long and what needs to be written to save up battery? Windows got different modes for saving up battery. Maybe it isn't as hard as it sounds, I don't know.

But over all, isn't it easier to make an A500/1200 type of computer compared to a laptop? Users can also choose whatever screen they want and it is easy to bring it with you if you're going somewhere. Perfect to take with you for some gaming, hook it up to a TV or monitor, plug in a couple of pads/joystick and have fun. Bring it with you to a party and use it as a MP3 player, run a cool plugin and put it on the TV, wall with a projector etc.

Or simply bring it with you and demonstrate AOS 4 . Or if you're going somewhere and need to take it with you like a laptop. It won't be a laptop but close. I would defenently buy one. A tower is a pain in the *** to take with you but a computer in an A1200 case is perfect for that. Only difference would be the lack of a screen and a battery but you rarely use a bettery on the laptop anyway.

Haha, I should stop writing about my dreams of an A1200 alike computer but I can't help myself, I just think that it would be really cool.

I would never buy an A-5/1200 style computer again. Having to bring separate mouse and cables equals getting none of the benefits from a laptop. Having no room for expandability means getting no benefits from what a (micro)Tower could give me.

I probably won't be buying another Amiga unless it comes in a portable (not draggable) size. 1/3 of the year I'm always outside, right now I am typing this sitting on my terrace, my A1 is unused indoors.

A1200 style is just that IMO it's not close to a laptop, but I could really use an Amiga (OS4 compatible) laptop.

@nimrod7

I seriously hope not.

Not only because that's just a Linux box on x86, but because it's Intel's horrible Atom, rather than AMD's rather nifty little E-350 (or E-450 given the release date).

While I don't like these "What is" marketing stunts i expect Acube to deliver something (their track record is good). Hope the least to get most pleased at the actual presentation.

Ok:

1. It has a boing-ball which should mean this one has Hyperion's blessing, so the project should be AmigaOS or AmigaOne related.
2. As stated by m3x we can expect a 460 successor in at least 2 years, or whenever they recoup the initial investment, so it should not be a new AmigaOS hardware platform (and with new I mean a successor to the 460).
3. Acube said future 460-Lite systems could come out in the future with some stripped down functionalities.
4. The Daddy contacted both AmigaKit and Acube regarding his new MiniMig cases, maybe they also spoke about his X500+ case project.

Having said that I'm betting on:

"SAM500" or "AmigaOne 500", a 460-Lite complete system with custom case by The Daddy, AmigaOS 4.1u3 pre-installed, for €999.

Dream mode on: this one comes with an expanded FPGA with MiniMig core.

Sunday wishful thinking mode off,

Cheers,
Shufflepuck

This isn't a "What is"-stunt though, this is normal PR. Something we've been wanting for ages. Now that someone actually does (good) PR we complain. Yay us!!!

Yes, It's just another "We have a secret!" stunt. And from this thread you can see how well it has worked since at least two persons have declared to postpone their Acube product purchase.

I strongly disagree. Obviously they're going to reveal something the 19:th, but that's not uncommon practice at all.
EDIT: and not anywhere close to a guessing game, in that sense.

Which is quite weird. Logic would say that this can't really be a new SAM version, that would be extremly surprising. I doubt potential customers putting of their purchase for a couple of weeks matter much anyway.

@Rose

You should try saying something positive Rose....your username sure sounds sweeter than this...or is it all thorns? - come on please, here we have a very small company trying to make a living by building hardware for a very small platform, and you dish them and call them stupid for doing so? - even when they make a GREAT PR stunt like this???

Nobody can satisfy you, so why is it you are here?? - do you want the old commodore days back or what is the problem here? - don't you like the companies of today? - yeah hyperion got os4 in a funny way, but I would 10 thousand times rather have them owning it, than the freakshow called amiga.inc.

What's your agenda man ??? - I can't understand you and certain others who always talk negative about positive things for AOS - are you guys angry mos users who belives that mos should have been the amiga os succesor, and therefore dish everything AOS ??

What is it ????? - please come clean on the subject...I really dont understand

I say it's a 460 light MB in The Daddy's case & with Hyperion's blessing we have a newly badged AmigaOne X500 to complement the X1000

Dunno...why else would you show such a hostile attitude towards anything AOS/HYPERION/ACUBE/A-EON ???

I just don't get it, I mean even if we don't like them, they are the only ones doing and investing something for AOS - which in return should somehow create a tiny bit of respect.

Don't you respect this ?
