I remember the days (3-5 years ago?) when there was nothing. No SAMs, no OS4, just chugging along with my A1200, Mediator, Voodoo, BlizzardPPC and OS3.9.
Those were the times!

The benefits over a tower is that you could put it in a bag with a mouse and joysticks and bring it with you. Try to do that with a big and heavy tower.
Also don't you bring a mouse and power adaptor with your laptop? I know I do. I don't think that it's such a big difference.
Also if someone sees a computer looking like that they will automaticaly think "Amiga". If they see a laptop it will be just as with the towers, they will think PC and ask themselves what the difference is. With an A1200 like computer the difference will be that there are no such good options on the market at all and nothing screams Amiga like such a computer.
With a laptop you would have to compete with Apple, Sony, Acer, ASUS, Fujitsu etc etc, it would probably be more expensive and who would buy it except from the current userbase?
I would also like to see a laptop but I don't think that it could make the userbase grow.
Also if you want proof that this idea works take a look at the new C64. It is selling becaue of a case! Now I must admit that my nostalgia level rose but then I realized that the fun ends as soon as I hit the powerbutton. With a X500 you would get AOS 4, now that is cool.
It is also funny that you talk about the lack of expanding possibilites. How the heck is a laptop better in that regard? Both the A500 and A1200 got more expansions than any laptop that I've ever seen. You can possibly add RAM, change the harddrive and that's it. Last edited by hotrod on 04-Sep-2011 at 06:45 PM.

I'm not trying to set anything on fire, but just asking a question because I really don't get the hostility towards AOS, and I'm tired of reading them negative statements again and again.
I honestly don't get it ? - when will the hatred dissapear and turn into something that can grow again. ???_________________ On Planet Boing Trevor is God |

Your writing stile resembles the body language of someone very upset, coming at you almost yelling. Maybe you should tone down the use of exclamation and question marks? _________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

If you were in my head when I wrote the stuff then you would discover a calm and puzzled thinking behind the words, and no angry feelings.
But as you probably know you can't read a mans thoughts, and therefore also can't judge it based on his writing style. So I think your interpretation of my feelings reflect your own take on it. Maybe you read angry feelings into it, dunno, but that's the last thing I feel here. I'm just tired and sad that so many users here really act like they hate anything AOS
But still I will take your suggestions into account

| According to their comments (in private mail), Acube is not going to provide us with modern accelerator boards for Classic, so we have to stop from dreaming of it from that advertisment:
"Anyway an accelerator board would cost a lot, something close to the price of a Sam Flex. These boards are more modern and more powerful. It would be like placing the engine of Alonso Ferrari on a Smart car"
It is a pitty, and i consider it is Hyperion which should be required to provide these kind of cards since they own rights for AmigaOs.
Come on AEon, provide us! |

| Id be pretty surprised if its anything OS4.x related unless its some sort of hardware emulation using sams fpga. Reason for saying this? The 500 in the top corner and the original boing ball demo running on the monitor... definately has a classic amiga flavor.
I'll bet my life savings its not a new OS4.x platform.
@Hondo
Ive also noticed it, but Rose seems predisposed to negativity in general from anything Ive seen posted on any amiga based sites, be it AOS, AROS or MOS. It's not just AOS, Near as I can tell he/she is one of those people that seem to think theyre telling people things they dont know when pointing out things like bang per buck/value/missing technologies/etc., as though its a revelation. One of many "Masters Of The Bloody Obvious" that seem to frequent Amiga sites. Perhaps ironically these sorts of people tend to know less about the systems they moan about than the people they attempt to preach to (being that the people they preach to actively use said machines).
To each thier own I guess.

Being realistic is bad nowdays? Maybe TOS should be changed "If you don't believe Amiga World Domination(TM) don't post here". |

Hm. there are at least two errors in your post:

#1: You're not realistic.

#2: Nobody claimed for Amiga World Domination here.
Next try. _________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

This has nothing to do with being realistic, and you know that. I've said so before, and repeat it here again. You seem stuck in the past, that's just how you're percieved in the forums. Bitter about how things could have ended up.
If you were being realistic, there would be positive things to share as well._________________ Common sense - So rare it's almost like a super power |

Yes and that's quite often a problem because one really can't hear the tone something is written in. People should use smileys more._________________ On Planet Boing Trevor is God |

I also bought laptop - Dell Inspiron, with part of the money saved from the AmigaOne X1000 purchase. But it's not an Amiga for me, whatever OS I put on it. |
Not even with official AmigaOS, like Amithlon or AmigaOS XL? You could also run any 1.x-3.9 version with UAE.
So if it's (clearly) not about OS, do you feel "using Amiga" with, say, Sam (which lacks Amiga name) board with a generic gfx card, keyboard and mouse and running only Linux? Last edited by Jupp3 on 05-Sep-2011 at 11:46 AM.

Maybe you mean well, maybe you're just trying to start a flamefest. Who knows?
What we do know is that you're trying to tell us something we already know and have known for far longer than you have been around.
We don't need a newbie to come along and tell us that we shouldn't be enjoying ourselves.

Hotrod... you make some interesting points... if its a tower it will look like a PC (unless the Amiga sticker gives it away), and a laptop... well meh! A1200 case anyday :)
