So, how's the machine in everyday Amiga-use doing? |
What would make this easier is some mass way to convert all of my Amiga floppies into ADF files and burn them to DVD.
This would then let me do what I wanted to do the most - start using all the software I know. This would give me a starting point - but at the moment it feels like I'm a bit out at sea and feeling around in the dark.
It's a bit of a bumpy road for someone that has been out of the Amiga world for so long. As soon as I have some time I will sit down and have a proper session._________________ Sam |

Are you going to produce a video showing it in use, very interested in seeing it run every day programs such as Pagestream, Art Effect, Photogenics and the like! _________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

over at aorg piru claims that the tests you are comparing to on the mac/mos side are once without altivec support. since you ensured that os4 version you tested on x1k are altivec enabled the result is invalid. http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=60604
in valid comparison x1k shows on pair with macs around 1.5 ghz
edit: uh, i see you know already, since krashan has confirmed the same on your own thread here: http://forum.amigaone.pl/topic65.html
for general public the results are so far: Mac mini 1,42 GHz -> 18s (MorphOS 2.7) PowerBook 1,67 GHz -> 16s(MorphOS 3.0) A1 X1k 1,8 Ghz -> 18s Sam 460ex 1,15 Ghz -> 53s
edit: another result (from morphzone): My 7448 took 14s and my overclocked mac mini @ 1.83GHz took 15s
äh, damn, the graph from piru: http://sintonen.fi/pics/lame_benchmark.png
(still the results are not that dramatically different i think, x1k doesnt outperform g4 but is close behind. for a unique construction it is still quite good) Last edited by wawa on 02-Feb-2012 at 07:19 PM. Good point about the ADFs... I guess you already did consider searching the web for ADFs of the commercial floppies you own? _________________ Back home... |

Is there any non-altivec version of lame? It would be interesting to see difference (and also comparison of plain CPU power). |

not that ive seen. do you stil have that wav file? maybe it would be good to post it somewhere not that there are doubts if the same file has been used, unintentionally, since the file itself is a result of a previous test and could differ. i for my part could see how lame performs on my i7 system. |

apparently, since the tests originate from a polish page "efika against the rest of the world". efika didnt have altivec, did it? if you trust this page altivec speeds up about a factor 1,7-1,8.

I just pulled out a few bits and pieces to see if I could get anything running. From previous posts I thought I would be able to put in a CD32 CD and play it - not so. There doesn't seem to be UAE or RunUAE built in as I was expecting. I have downloaded UAE but it doesn't run CD32 discs.
Tried Turrican II - worked for about 10 seconds then crashed the whole machine.
Still - when I have more time I will have another go.
You have had OS4.1 for a while - what do you use as a mod player? Also - how stable is UAE on your 460?_________________ Sam |

I'm just the messenger. I don't do the tests. Probably this wav file is the conversion result (DBM to wav) DBM file. See the previous bench (DigiRoller).
EDIT. I've just reread your post and see you know about it already Last edited by mr2 on 02-Feb-2012 at 07:28 PM.

If results on that page are non-Altivec for Mac Mini and Pegasos II, I would like see also non-AltiVec result of the X1000 (for direct comparison).

With lame? Sorry, I don´t see this in the lame benchmark. |

yes i know but this just introduces another stage to the test. admittedly im too lazy to fire up an amiga or uae to do the thest just now, but on the other hand the more operations the easier a failure is introduced. |

I use Photogenics 5 here on my SAM460. There is a free demo version of ImageFX called 'ImageFX_Lite' from OS4 Depot. I also use Hollywood and Designer, do you have those?

Initially it was unstable, wouldn't boot every time, then I discovered the on-board battery was no good, fitted a new one and it's been very stable now, get the odd crash when running something new that is not known about full compatibility!
I only play MP3's and use either TuneNet or AmigaAMP3_________________ SAM 460 with 2GB or RAM, 1000GB HD, 4 port SATA, DVDRW drive and Radeon HD 4650 GFX card. |

mac mini 1,5 + lame without altivec ->33s mac mini 1,5 + lame with altivec -> 17s alright, its rather close to 2x, my bad.
edit: hold on there is still some confusion about that. os4 version seems not to have altivec support after all, and as i suspected. different wav files have apparently been used. Last edited by wawa on 02-Feb-2012 at 07:36 PM.

As I said in that thread, according to the readme, the AmigaOS 4 port of lame lacks altivec support.
If the A1-X1000 test really used an altivec enabled version of lame, then could the person who created it please upload it to os4depot so that the rest of us can use it?
