An interesting incite into life in Israel! As i say Jewish culture seems under represented in many parts of the UK compared to the Islamic influence. What is more of an issue here is that the British Labour party in opposition (not in power thankfully) has swung violently to the left following Brexit and Jeremy Corbyn is a thinly veiled 70s style socialist with all the anti-war (at any cost) and pro-Palestinian (whatever the atrocity committed by their 'freedom fighters') rhetoric that would lead to the anhiliation of western society and Israel too if we all followed his 'hug an enemy' type wooliness . I respect your country but obviously you're in a dangerous tinder box of a region of the world. As I've previously said the Messianic Jews have their work cut out in witnessing to non-Christians in your country but in the meantime at least your military and politicians have your homeland security sorted.

I've just been reading about the problems in Honduras and that seems like a really scary place to live. I'd guess they'd consider themselves Catholic but in a country where there are 115,000 gang members a lot of citizens are only serving one master and that's their gang and the violent lifestyle it cultivates or on the other side just staying out of trouble. However, there is always hope for lives reconciled to God and turned around through a faith in Jesus. I'll pray for Israel and Honduras tonight. No hard feelings mate, just good to have a bit more incite into Amigans in other parts of the world

Well this part of the world says you might wanna consider replacing the sardaukar for an atreides unit. You start there and who knows? we might skip administering some spice to mellow your butt just for a little bit.

There is such a thing as 'spiritual' warfare my friend. This has been a difficult year for me and never have I been more convinced that we are all 'soldiers' in a way whether it be faithfully spreading the good news of our Lord and saviour Jesus Christ whatever the backlash, praying for and supporting marriages that the rest of the world has already accepted as over or simply drawing attention to the fleeting nature of life by showing a vapourised Sardauker / Harkonnen heavy trooper on my avatar! For the record I prefer playing as Paul Atreides in the graphic adventure / strategy game Dune than playing Harkonnen in Dune 2 (though the Devastator tanks are cool ).

@Spectre660

Neat coverage of Paul 'Acill' Rezendes and his X5000.

David 'AmigaDave' Morris and I were recently in contact with Paul with the idea that he might bring his X5000 to AmiWest 2017.
But Paul recently underwent abdominal surgery to remove his gall bladder, so its up in the air as to whether or not he'll make it to the meet.
He seems to think he'll be there this Friday, but I've encouraged him not to push himself.

Paul does really nice repair work, and some of his latest projects include the new bare 3640 boards that have become available.

As someone who is interested in a broad spectrum of Amiga activities from legacy to NG, I really appreciate Paul's enthusiasm, his involvement in our community, and the assistance he renders to friends who need help with their hardware.

I hope you'll all join me in wishing Paul a swift recovery.

While there is some kind of Jewish theme going on here I just wanted to ask something on my mind. Now, obviously I'm influenced here by my "English" thinking mind. But what I want to know is, if ham and related products are not kosher, why was Abram renamed to be Abraham?

Also, I wonder how many Jews read Trevor's Amiga blog? And we're back.

"Tony made the long drive 922Km (523 miles) drive from Sydney to Wellington in Maccas**, his heaving customised minivan which he has driven all over Australia."

Wow, if Tony drove directly from Sydney to Wellington, I can only assume his van is **very** heavily customised.

We hope that Paul will have a good recovery - I was not expecting him to be at Amiwest because of his recent surgery. So I hope he does take it one step at a time. Lifting heavy X5000s may not be the best option at this time. Of course it will be great to see him and catch up with others such as AmigaDave too.

Oh, yes, well spotted. What the hell is "NoviaOS"? It really looks like something I know. Hmm....

Novia means mostly the same as amiga in Spanish. So maybe it's a joke only. Or it's their own Linux distro for the Alice laptop ?!

(Edit after Emeck's post: I used www.sanakirja.org to check the word.)

I hope he takes it easy on himself, too.
But he seems pretty enthusiastic to do it.

I haven't heard back from David yet, so we will have to see if its actually going to happen.

David is a great guy, very supportive, but its a lot of work for him too.
And all this is a bit last minute.

Whatever happens, I hope all of you and Trevor have a good weekend.
I'm going to try to make it next year myself.

I get no page hits for "novia" on Trevor's most recent blog.

What am I missing here?

@Tomppeli

That is not correct. "Novia" is the term in spanish for bride or fiancee. In some spanish speaking countries it could be used also for girlfriend.

"Amiga" is the female word for friend. An amiga is a friend, a female friend. You don't call "novia" all you female friends or you could get in trouble!

@emeck

google search for NoviaOS images confirms that.
Pretty much just wedding pictures.

”Amiga” means friend (of female gender).
”Novia” means more like girlfriend (i.e. more in the sense of a love relationship. Google translate even refers to “bride”).

Could be. Like in “soon Amiwest, let the hyping begin”.

P5020 / AmigaOne X5000
OS sees 1 CPU (the 5020 has 2), surely a contemporary Linux would see both and use SMP?
OS is 32-bit (the 5020 is 64-bit), surely a contemporary Linux would run as 64-bit on 64-bit H/W?
2MB RAM, who puts that little in a new Linux box?
“Kick”, “Work”, “Warp”, etc.
Radeon HD 7900, not Radeon HD 7900M, which IMHO does not make much sense in an “Alice” type of product anyway...

Had it been something running under emulation we shouldn’t see these specs listed?

@TRIPOS

Almost looks like some parallel “OS4” runing on X5000, with all trademark sensitive names stripped. Had it been an “Official” OS4 (running native or emulated in a box on some x64 “Alice”), there would have been no need for this?

Workbench Screen -> Desktop screen
AmigaOS -> NoviaOS
4 -> IV
Kickstart -> Kick
Workbench -> Work
MUI -> GUI (and there are several MUI-windows)
Warp3D -> Warp
MiniGL -> MiniG
SysMon -> monsys

OS4 SysMon
