it was wrong when the Dohnert troll tried to do it

First, not a troll but nonetheless. I never tried to usurp the brand from ANYONE, in fact I took great pains to even include the word, OpenLinux. Amiga Inc. is a dead company, the trademarks have long expired and NO ONE brought forth ANY logical LEGAL reasoning why I couldnt do it. I didnt do it because of two reasons. 1. Many in the community ASKED me not to. 2. I decided on my own not to ride the coat tails of a brand that so many people had fond memories of. So, Im relatively a nice guy and I decided not to be a jerk about it. If I wanted to prove a point, I could have went ahead and done it. Still could do it and the only thing you or anyone can do about it is cry, moan, beat your chest and throw a two year old tantrum and thats it. Point blank and simple. Oh and you could have threatened legal action but it was toothless and would have wound up like the threats to MorphOS, just a bunch of talk on a blog and nothing more.

Barry on the other hand has a license to the Amiga name. He was not as nice about it as I was but the only thing you could do was cry, moan, beat your chest and throw a two year old tantrum and thats it. All that wound up happening was that you tried to villify him and making asses out of yourselves. You are blaming the wrong people for what you consider as making a mockery of the Amiga name. You blame me, you blame Trevor and you blame Barry but Bill McEwen is the one that plays hard and fast with the naming and uses it as a way to bring in some cash when he starts to go broke.

I see you're quoting the AMIGA FORMAT MARCH 1998 interview.

Besides to all intents and purposes it is the nearest we have to a new Amiga so I think people will start to naturally see it as one anyway no matter how big the ONE or one is at the end.

There are no other Amiga branded computers in production than AmigaOne.

There is no Amiga branded computer in production.

AmigaOne branded computers are as Amiga branded as http://www.audioline.de/ is about cars with the 4 ring logo.

Yeah, PITA that the amiga TM is not accessible, but deal with it.

Btw.: nice to see the boards progressing, albeit I doubt the price/performance ratio will enter a sane level. But probably better than teh X1000 thoing at least.

@terminills: not only that. I reported quotes from several sources. You can find them, and more, here (it's an Italian article that I wrote time ago).

@RobertJDohnert

I call my Mac Mini an Amiga too, sometimes. It is not always necessary to go into details.

I always called it the Amiga X1000 and the Amiga X5000 because as far as I knew those systems are Amiga's. So it was my own understanding that brought about my confusion. Very well then.

Amiga Inc created the AmigaOne brand for next gen Amiga hardware. As part of the settlement agreement Hyperion were granted an exclusive license to the AmigaOne brand which Hyperion and the right to sub-license that brand to third parties. So far they've sub-licensed it to A-EON and Acube.

In the past Amiga Inc licensed the AmigaOne brand to Eyetech and it would have been licensed to B-Plan for the Pegasos but the relationship between Amiga Inc and B-Plan turned sour.

@cgutjahr

I suggested them to do so months ago, I don't pretend they "heard" me, but I'm glad they did it!
Is the PS4 not a Playstation because it's based on X86 CPU and AMD GPU?
I don't understand why some Amigans are always complaining for the sake of it. If I don't like something I don't write about it over and over, I just don't use it period.

Quite frankly I'm grateful that there's still company like A-EON supporting the Amiga in the 21st century!

This thread makes it easy to find the real PutzOne of the amiga platform.

Sorry to see the putz's have taken a good thread and made a mess of it.

But thanks for making it easy to update the PutzOne list for the rest of us 97%.

@RobertJDohnert

so you're Mr. Nice Guy eh make 'something' Amiga related and then perhaps you can come here on an AMIGA forum and talk that nonsense. Till then you're only that Linux guy that wanted 5 minutes of attention with a so called "Amiga' Linux distro

However, isnt it so that if Amiga Inc fail to defend Amiga trademark they lose it?

I think difference is that Microsoft never went bankrupt. To many Amigans only real Amiga is Commodore Amiga.

So you are saying that Escom Amigas are not so called "real" Amigas either then?

Also all this talk of what's a "real" Amiga makes it seem like some kind of weird fundamentalist religion... Personally I don't give a shit what a so called "real Amiga" is so long as I can run AmigaOS (that is the Amiga Operating System) on my Sam460 (it runs AmigaOS and that makes it an Amiga in my book if not necessarily a "real Amiga" whatever that is).

@salass00

escom did never produce let alone develop any, they just assembled and sold stock. so technically these were genuine commodore amigas. but whatever.

i dont understand why calling things by its name is a weird fundamental religion. there are amigas and there are sams, pegasos, macs, different sorts of pcs, amigaones, zx spectrums, will you call every machine you can run any sort of amiga operating system "amiga" even if its branded differently? i dont understand why mix it all up together and pretend one thing is another. i dont use to call my bike a car even though it has wheels too.
