I bet a donation that we see the new a-eon next gen HW (or info about it) at Amiwest.
Board work name is Breed / Alien Breed or something like that.

(or we are getting full Alien Breed 3D for AOS4.2)

Trevor should try to connect his S2 phone to the amiga again because it works, but he might have to go to the prefs in his phone and change some usb related stuff.

@KimmoK

Hmmm I wonder if someone at aeon took up the Team17 offer of the modern PC Alien Breed trilogy sources... They were offered to me at the Replay exhibition last year. I passed the offer on to Amigakit but haven't heard if anything came of it.

OS4 struggles to play Q3, do you think that porting a game based on Unreal Engine 3 would work? LOL

@Cool_amigaN

Q3 Arena works fine on My AmigaONE-XE 1ghz, R250. slower then my PC but more then playable.

Remember Q3 is a old game, Sam460 is faster then AmigaONE-XE, I have seen it, so whit a new 3d system, and new graphic card it should run like a blast.

Anyway the questing is how fast DOOM3 is going to run

Yes, I am quite aware that Q3 is an old game, that's why I am asking whether anyone believes that Unreal Engine 3 (in which AB Trilogy is based) will ever run on OS4 systems whereas many times struggle just to play SDL ports. LOL

@Cool_amigaN

Its just the PCI and AGP bus that are slow, on AmigaONE-SE/XE/Mini/Sam440. Sam460 and X1000 is okay.

I don't know how well you are to code, but SDL was designed for cross platfrom games, when you write pixels to bitmap surface most SDL examples show you how to shift rotate and RGB values, before you write the values, if you do that for every pixel is going to be slow, and also there are two types of bitmap surfaces in SDL, you have hardware surface and software surface, but on AmigaOS4.1 is think every thing is accurately stored in a software surface, hardware surfaces is supposed to be graphic card memory.

MorphOS has more optimist SDL called PowerSDL where they done more to make SDL run faster, by using Altivec, I don't think this has been done whit AmigaOS4 SDL version yet.

Composition is one thing that was not available when SDL was first ported to AmigaOS4, And it can speed up some the games greatly, because it can enables you to use graphic card memory for hardware surfaces.

So there is a lot of untapped potential to make SDL run faster then it does.

@Cool_amigaN

Surely AlienBreed3D does not "compile" with MiniGL.

Also Gallium3D will be demoed at Amiwest. (I bet another donation) ;)
With HW acceleration (yet another donation).

(my bets, if I loose: 50 eur to MUIOWB, 50 eur to JitUAE, 20 eur to VPDF)
(my previous 50eur to TW is also in the pipeline, lost already with x1000 teaser)

(if I win I just get two MOS licence instead of one etc... and donate later)

usually you can easily manipulate sdl code to use hardwaresurface if you want, and consider it faster. i did ir numerous times, as on a genuine 68k amiga with a gfx card it is usually a lot faster (due to limited z3 bandwidth) as long as there is massive blitting involved. im not sure though if this would mean any advantage on amigaones and if it did why it couldnt be done.

@wawa

Is that a bad example?

Games is in the old days are like 320x200 NTSC, that's just tiny sprite on modern game run in 1680x1050 32bit (4bytes per pixel), PCI and AGP is standard that can keep up whit amount of graphic you need to push, PCI about as the same speed as Z3, but Z3 can't get peek preference because broken bus mastering.

And also you need to realize that the GPU is faster then the CPU in most computers.

Anyway it depends on what your doing.
