Yes, Trevor's okay. I'm pretty sure Epsilon didn't even feel that quake as he lives in Australia.
This earthquake was the nastiest I've ever felt, and I have a lot of sympathy for those in the Kaikoura area as the sizeable aftershocks keep coming. Wellington's far enough away that we feel those aftershocks, but they feel pretty mild.

Glad you're both okay and I wish you all the best to you and New Zealand citizens. It will take some time to rebuild what has been crushed but you'll make it ! _________________ PowerMac G5 2,7Ghz - 2GB - Radeon 9650 - MorphOS 3.14 AmigaONE X1000, 2GB, Sapphire Radeon HD 7700 FPGA Replay + DB 68060 at 85Mhz |

Trevor posted to one of our mailing lists the morning after the 'quakes, saying that although he and his wife in Wellington were OK, the power was off (and he was using his smartphone). He described an iMac as "bouncing off a table onto the floor".
I hope all his shelving held up and that his Amigas are OK. We haven't heard anything since then.
BTW, Epsilon lives in South Australia.

Thanks. Yes, it'll take time to rebuild the stuff that broke, and we'll make it better and stronger than before.

This has officially (and publically) been on the MorphOS development agenda for at least 5 years. It sems to be exactly what you are asking for. They are doing it. |
A lot of people have made claims about doing many things for many years.
Either way, while I'm sure that the MorphOS group has noble intentions but they are also outliers. Maintaining three separate versions of a 30-year-old OS is tremendous waste of resources.

sorry to spoil your dreams, regardless how sane they are, you will even be less able to lead the fraction of whatever be left of amiga scene attracted to morphos to a new architecture, whatever it might be, than the fraction attracted to another architecture that have grown old while talking, like ppc. if there even# is a particular platform amiga is bound to, its 68k. thats a fact, not a wish. im with aros, rather than anything else ng, so i must have observed the choices and for a reason, i guess. |
I'm not sure that being apathetic or dismissive helps the cause.
Dividing up the community up by a commitment to a particular architecture is silly.
There are lots of opportunities and each one of them benefits the others. |

Yes I'm fine thanks and so is my Commodore, Amiga & Next-Generation Amiga collection.
Power is now back on and pleased to say that apart from an iMac G5 which has a damaged screen after falling on the floor during the quake everything else survived. I'm posting this from my AmigaOne X5000 with the latest version of AmigaOS4.1 FE X5000 -Pre-release iso which I have just installed. I'm pleased to report the installation went very well.

I live in Auckland and I didn't feel it, although some others have said they did.
Glad to hear you're safe Trevor. A little concerned for Anthony Hoffman, who lives in Christchurch. I think he's still in Antarctica, so hopefully he doesn't come home to a big mess. _________________ --------------- AmigaOne X5000 P5020 2Ghz, OS 4.1 AmigaOne XE G4 800mhz, OS 4.1 A1200T 40Mhz 68040, OS 3.9 |

| Trevor, I'm glad that you and your wife are safe. Did the apartment survive (the one overlooking the harbor)?

Good to hear that Kiwi Amigans are all ok!
I have been watching the news intently hoping that New Zealand can get over this latest whiplash quickly. I was in Christchurch only 3 months before the first quake struck, and sadly, the rest they say is history.
Regarding Auckland. It seems Auckland sits about 300 km away from the closest most seismic fault in the vicinity of the city. There are secondary weaker faults that sit closer to the city though.
Whilst I am not a New Zealand resident, I do own property in Auckland, and a little nervous of the prospects of a possible earthquake striking the city at any time, even though an earthquake above 6 is very unlikely. However, compared to what has happened down south over the last 6 years, I really do count myself lucky...
Stay safe New Zealand!

| Seems Trevor can't follow to everythng related to os4 classic on winuae, so that one phrase from his post is wrong:
Quote:
Of course the Classic version of AmigaOS 4.1 Final edition does not support many of the advanced features of PowerPC models like the AmigaOne X1000 or X5000. There is no compositing support or video support and the emulated version has limited RAM and graphics capabilities meaning games which requires compositing will be unplayable.
|
For first there is patch from Alain for make compositing support work: http://aminet.net/package/gfx/misc/PatchCompositeTags
and such games as MACE for example (which use compositing) , or that Emotion player (also which can use compositing) works through that patch quite well:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3CiDpfCrkQM
Also there is no more limited ram since update1 , as with NoRamPager option you can have up 1 gb of ram, which on os4 enough for everything.

He was maybe speaking about VRAM which is quite low under emulation. As for the compositing patch it is software based so not hardware accelerated which is the aim of it under AmigaOne.

UAEGFX has no such limitations.

picasso4 is limited to 4mb, but uaegfx to 256.

Under emulation hardware or software not so matter, as you can fix speed by faster PC which is faster and faster after each half of year. Probably , under that ALICE laptop or what is was it will be slow , but as on video above MACE plays pretty OK on more or less normal x86._________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

256MB Is not much, as for PC being faster I understand that the need for real HW especially low end is questionable. If a bounty is made toward HW support for graphics under WinUAE then low end may be dead in the water. Kamelito |
