Nice going. These were some result that I got on my Sam440ep-flex using the second pci slot. Your Write Pixel Array is more than 5 times faster.
33mhz with DMA off
Operation MiB/s Copy to VRAM 9.63 Write Pixel Array 9.66 Copy from VRAM 13.81 Read Pixel Array 13.82

With a new U-Boot and graphics.library currently in development, I've obtained some more MiB/s on the Sam440ep mini-itx model when using a RadeonHD card, in particular DMA from RAM to VRAM now works:
Sam440ep-itx Radeon HD5450 PCI Edition Operation MiB/s Copy to VRAM 11.82 Write Pixel Array 54.67 Copy from VRAM 14.96 Read Pixel Array 14.92

Still in stock almost four years later. Seems impossible to find it cheaper than €49.90, which is a bummer.

I get that it (probably?) won't work in the 66 MHz slot, but what about DMA? Does it have to be disabled?
I have the 733 MHz version with 147 MHz FSB.
I plan to soon (two more weeks!) try a ASUS Radeon HD 4350 and a ASUS Radeon HD 5450 in my Sam440 with the help of an PEX 8112 bridge. |

DMA plus the adapter worked with the Sam440ep-Flex 66mhz slot. My usage was with AmigaOS 4.1 update 6

| Instead of starting a new thread, I'm going to piggyback on this one for future reference.
I'm following along with everything that has been done so that I might test a few Radeon HD cards in my Sam440, but nothing seems to work.
Using the Radeon HD driver (1.x version) with a 6870 listed as compatible on Hans' website
I have a bridge card, which appears to work since the system will display Uboot screens until the OS4 logo should appear.
I've included RadeonHD.chip in the Kicklayout file.
I've tried the suggestion to minimize the Radeon monitor tool types:
CMPLENGTH=6 BOARDNAME=Radeon DDCMODE=ALL INTERRUPT=Yes
I've tried the card in every slot with the same results. Always a boot sequence until the logo should appear and the screen goes blank. I've also tried different configurations of VGA, DVI or DVI to VGA with no luck. Having either (9250 or 6870) or both cards installed in the machine make no difference either. So now I'm a bit lost.
Any further suggestions?

do you hear the boot jingle ? You can also boot with your monitor powered off then after a couple of minutes turn the monitor on. This could be an issue with your monitors DDC . You could also try to disable the DDC .

No jingle that I can hear.
I've tried a few bootups with the monitor off, no change there.
Would it matter that I'm using the driver from A-EON's downloads and not the version from Amistore?
The 6870 is a full size card and I've had to remove it's slot cover so it can actually fit inside. I'm considering getting a PCIe ribbon so I can have it sit outside the machine. Which would make testing this and any other card much easier.

I have a Saphire Radeon HD 6870 and works fine in my 440 Flex with an adaptor and a PCIe Ribbon.
So I install the long card out of the SAM board.

Which slot are you connecting to with the bridge card? |

It's installed in the U3 Slot (66 MHz). I have a SB128 in Slot 28 too.
The PCI to PCIe Bridge it's a DeLock 89272. ( I buy it in Amazon).
The driver I use it's the last V2 from Amistore.
I hope this can help you.

Try removing the RadeonHD driver and then booting the system with both boards installed. If this goes to plan reinstall the driver and reboot when prompted, it should still boot to Workbench with the 9250. Now you can try testing the screen modes on the 6870 with the option of falling back to the 9250.

I asked it about a half an years ago, they said it is not high priority.
Maybe more people should ask it from them directly? |

Just so I get this correct: the Sam440 OS 4.1 FE disc doesn't have the driver for testing Radeon HD with a max. resolution of 1024x768?
That means I have to buy the driver to be able to test the PCI->PCIe bridge + Radeon HD card? |

| @duga, you can test it but you are limited to 1024x768 resolution, it's enough to see if it works or not

Please tell me how I should test.
I can see the Uboot screen, I can see the loading of kickstart modules. Then nothing happens.
When I boot with the Radeon 9250 as active card I can see the bridge + the Radeon 5450 card in Ranger.
I assume I need at least the radeonhd.chip file? It's nowhere to be found on the Sam 440 OS 4.1 FE disc and neither on the Classic disc. It should be included only with Sam460 and X1000 versions AFAIK.
I assume it WILL work if I buy the driver, but it would be nice to have that confirmed before paying €40-50. Last edited by duga on 10-Apr-2016 at 06:40 PM.

I'm prety sure that Sam440EP install media doesn't have Radeon HD driver by default. Sam 460 has, but 440EP doesn't. |
