A quote from Rogue on Amigans.net

"Yes, Warp3D support for these cards was never planned. Yes, due to delays with the OS A-Eon decided to fund these drivers as a stop-gap solution. "

What delay? When was the release date which is "delayed" now?

@Daytona675x

Gallium should support it.
I ordered a second Radeon HD4850 AFTER the Warp3D for HD5xxx and HD6xxx announcement because this is the best single slot card that I can find that works with Sams and their current Uboot.Unless the Uboot situation changes I have a HD5550 and a HD6570 that works with a DVI to VGa adapter for use with the Warp3d driver when it shows up.I believe the HD4850's will perform better than these under Gallium.

Too bad I followed this, hm, semi-official advice and got a 4650 about 1.75 years ago.

How time flies! That were the days when I got a same460ex plus 4650 and was told that this great gfx-driver would be completed (for free) in short time. Looks like that 4650 will be the most useless piece of hardware I ever bought (removed it from that 460 quickly when I felt that it'll take a bit longer until one could expect hw-acceleration here, pretty dusty and rusty that card now).

Well, lesson learned. Nothing is certain in amiga-land

Nevertheless, in *my* world a delay can only happen if there's at least a rough idea of a release date. But you're of course right - it must have been some kind of internal time schedule that seemed to be missed.

@Spectre660

if you wait for something a long time it is a "delay" (whatever before was announced). It is not important. Everybody who has a SAM and wants to use Mesa/Gallium has the choice to use Aros or has to wait for 4.2.. The X1000 user will get Warp3D as a shortterm solution and others will have to pay for it (similar to the Radeon 2D driver) as I understand it.

@cha05e90

it is (and was) obvious that it is "delayed" otherwise the update would have been available on their main event "amiwest" (what I before expected). But it is not important. Who wants it in AmigaOS has to wait and there are already alternatives available (even on PPC) and thus competition.

@thread

Most assume that AOS4.2 with Gallium3D is delayed because Warp3D is being released in the meanwhile / stop gap solution.

But perhaps it only means that Gallium3D will initially support only HD4000 series.
(+"only" Warp3D to Gallium3D wrapper is needed for legacy SW there
and Gallium3D development for "Evergreen series" might not have begun yet
and A-Eon needs some 3D support for their next product (the hint by Amigakit))

And I do not hint that AOS4.2 is not delayed.
(it most likely it is... if it was expected during this year. Doubt it gives much new for my SAM anyway, so I personally can wait. Perhaps I get some more relevant BoingBags for 4.1 in the meanwhile. )

@OlafS25

The A-Eon press release .

If "Obtain" means pay then you could be correct.I have two licences for th New Radeon HD driver. Neither for an X1000.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RadeonHD 3D Support Announced

Sacramento, 20th October 2012
A-EON Technology funds development of a new Warp3D driver for RadeonHD

A-EON Technology has announced today at Amiwest 2012 show that development has commenced of the Warp3D driver for RadeonHD graphics cards. The much awaited 3D support has been exclusively funded by A-EON and is aimed at customers who have recently purchased the new RadeonHD driver

Availability of the 3D driver is expected before the end of 2012 and will provide RadeonHD 3D support for AmigaOS for the very first time. Customers will be able to obtain the driver from the A-EON website. Initially the driver will be compatible with 5000 and 6000 series of RadeonHD with possible 7000 series support being added later. Older series support will be assessed dependent on user demand.

A-EON's Trevor Dickinson commented, “The Warp3D driver will compliment the new RadeonHD drivers and will provide AmigaOS 3D support with many of the latest RadeonHD graphics cards. We are pleased to support the Amiga community and look forward to introducing many new products."

it is only a assumption but it would be logical. Trevor wants to make the most out of X1000 so it seems to be logical to assume that it is similar handled than the Redeon driver update before (I cannot remember official informations about this only the announcement of the drivers). He prepays the development so everyone that is not a-eon customer has to pay for it (except acube would pay for it). But perhaps all have to pay for it. I think there is nothing yet announced.

@KimmoK

It will be intersting to see the performance of Warp 3d on a PCI Radeon HD5450 on a Sam440ep Flex.
I expect that it will be much faster than a Radeon 9250.
My HD5670 setup which is much faster should fly...........

"Customers will be able to obtain the driver from the A-EON website."

Obtain can mean a lot of things. Even free of charge. But driver development is expensive and I cannot imagine that the income he got from Radeon driver development was enough to cover the costs for the Warp3D drivers.

We will have to wait for more info.
"Free" 3D support would make the purchase of the 2D Radeon HD driver more useful.

Is there any hope of such a thing working on an AI-XE in the 66Mhz PCI slot next to the AGA? Would the performance take a hit going to PCI from the 2x AGA?
