OMG! That's horrible! Now I feel really bad about not liking his company. I sure hope none of us caused any stress on Barry that might have hurt him physically. That would be terrible. I only wanted to provide constructive criticism. I always hoped he would make an Amiga 1200 replica like he did the C64x. You have to admit, the C64x was pretty darn cool as a case.

RIP Barry. I hope you are playing with your Amiga in the big beyond.

Well that confirms it. Erika Lane is his lawyer daughter who also appears on the C-USA website.

Now the question is, what happens to the assets of the company? On one hand the sale value will be low due to the lack of sales and high startup costs. However, the sale price might even be "toxic" due to the debts owed.

Remark edited by mod: I expressed my feelings and then asked a question. Your reply is out of line. Take a break and think about it.

Does anyone know if they have product left and if they do when they'll be liquidating it? I wouldn't mind picking up a C64X for a Windows 8 machine with an AROS VM.

Got a link to someone from the company posting that intent?

or was this a guess about intent?

I suppose they could continue, but what would be the point of continuing now that Barry's gone and he can't just give it a cash injection every so often?

What little information is available atm, seems to be a few postings from Leo in the last few days.

Leo answers a few user's questions

Well if Barry's family want Commodore USA to continue they would almost have to have Leo run the show, but he'd be better off just finding a real job in Melbourne. I'm sure he's finding it hard to just walk away too. It's a horrible position for him to be in. I really feel bad for him.

On the other hand it could carry on with the remaining two employees and develop the Linux distro, maybe come up with a new product. But it's a dead end.

@pavlor

It could be a couple of resons. 504 just means the proxie is having issues resolving the upstream from the host. Without a error code from the upstream we can't really assess whats happening.

However I will say it doesn't look amazing. I wonder where it puts people who bought a computer and could potentially have tech issues.

Both Twitter and Facebook (as well as website) are silent for about same period of time of ~15 days.

Leo might be here in uncomfortable position, but it really seems it was one mans show.

Off course, I am glad they met my expectations.

Legal limbo is that both Commodore and Amiga names are stuck with them.

Seems you didn't keep up with changes. Barry's son had been handling things for quite some time.

What do you mean by that?

@thread

Interesting to note that Commodoreusa was mentioned February 28, 2013, when CoolShip was reviewed.

CoolShip desktop Android computer looks like nothing more than a keyboard

Looks like at least the idea of a computer in a keyboard lives on...

Did not know that. Remember daughter and the dog in team, but first heard of son when condolences were presented.

As legal successor, understood. However, there are no news, no overall activity and yup, forum is quite dead. C=OS is still beta also.

C=USA Biggest success was that they have exclusive licence for both names in computing, and yet they are unable to exploit it as it seems (at least as they have planned). We don`t know is it time expiry one, but as long as it is valid, it is in their hands, even they don`t use it.

I don`t understand law enough to know whether such licence can be transfered to 3rd party. Even stranger C=USA seems to be the only one that ever got licence from Amiga Inc tech licencing.

No. And considering the lawsuit over the Commodore IP still drags on in the Netherlands, I can see the saliva dripping from the lawyers' mouths if someone tried that.

I thought it was just a Commodore themed Linux distro, not sure how it can be in beta.

It is Linux Mint based, but Distrowatch keeps it as separate distro .

DW C=OS Page

Latest (2nd public release) is Beta 9.

Distro watch will keep it as a separate distro but lists it as been based off mint. A very old mint. One that someone on the mint forums said was using repository packs that are no longer been maintained and deemed end of life.
