Wow! Many thanks for taking the time to do this! The images denote that you put some serious effort into it: I appreciate this *a lot* And double-thanks for pointing out that there's a manual: it's important because if one wants to really enjoy the game, it's an obligatory read (or, alternatively, also the menu scrolltext will do - use the [LEFT/RIGHT] controls to pause/accelerate it)
That said, do you mind if I write here a few notes? - I'd like to correct some minor details and give you and everybody else more information in order to have more fun
The dots mode is not irrelevant also on the X1000: the reason being that it does not only affect the size of dots, but also their aspect! By default the game uses the dot-matrix style you mentioned, but there are many others - f.ex., here's the CRT 3x mode:

Regarding the gameplay, you wrote I just change colours and shoot like mad!: my friend, that won't get you far, and won't even let you enjoy the game As you suspected, yes, one has to develop strategies to progress through the levels (and to make really high scores), and that can be achieved only by learning how all the bricks (and all the bonuses) work. At the same time, the game punishes blind shooting: every miss will bring the deadly zapper one step closer and will lower the percentage, which means less points and more hits required to destroy the NUKE bricks.
Speaking of destroying bricks: the passage "Some constantly change colour and can't be destroyed" isn't correct, as all the bricks can be destroyed - it's just that each of them works differently. This is one of the strategy factors: what needs to be done to destroy a brick and what are the ensuing benefits (in case of destruction) or damages (in case of landing on the ground) is information that one has to process in one's head while the chaos explodes... it's a high-pressure, mind&hand game!
Finally, just a couple of very minor notes (only because I'm a maniac perfectionist): * the email is requested the first time the game is closed with the global hiscores options on; * the file configuration.txt isn't present after the install, but it is generated on the first run.

Oh, well, things start pretty slowly and easy, and then speed and complexity increase gradually, so it's mostly a matter or practice (and interest/motivation, of course). You'll discover yourself if it's your cup of tea.

I just tried myself for the first time (the shop is owned by RGCD, not me) and it looks like you can also pay by credit/debit card: AFAIK, the transaction is handled through PayPal, but it's easy/transparent and requires no account.

ATM the game is available only as a digital download. We're planning also a boxed release and, in that case, there should be no problem with shipping to most countries. BTW, who buys the digital copy now will get a discount for the same amont to buy the boxed version

Thanks for your kind words about the blog and also thanks for providing some more information and some corrections about the game!
It is quite a lot of fun to play and as you say I have to master the strategies better to get through the tougher levels. Reading the manual is essential to master this!

Really good write-up, thanks! I've been putting in more enhancements to SuperDiskImage since then - you have a recent version but not the latest. If you're interested I can send you a version to test, just let me know! The differences are to do with handling bad disks (it's now more sensible about how it deals with them, and gives more information).
I'll see if I can put in a dialogue box for "Operation Finished" or something. Maybe a displayalert of some kind to bleep the sound as well.... |

Great review man.
But I really think it should have had it's own thread called Epsilons X1000 Catweasel II review - that way alot more people would see there is a catweasel review on the frontpage, and it is more searchable too. Many people perhaps skip it because they don't know Epsilon or because it says nothing about the content.
This simple continuation of a thread is a bad way imho. The same thing goes with Trevors blog thread. Each blog should have their own thread with a corresponding title. I'm also tired of clicking the thread and try and find the newest blog link.
All you bloggers and people who sees a new blog and want to post it take notice!

Thank you very much for your nice block (as always ), but this time I have to correct you. This
Quote:
Please note that Qt requires OpenGL and as such requires the Dual graphic card setup on the X1000 in order to use it - ie. you need a Radeon 9250 graphics card which has OpenGL support. I detailed how to set this up in an earlier blog posting I wrote here. If you have the graphics card which came with the X1000 you will not be able to use Qt at this time. |
is not true!
I use and even develop and port software with a "usual" HD graphics card equipped X1000 without any problem. Only special applications might need OpenGL/MiniGL but can mostly circumvented by using Wazp3D._________________ X1000|II/G4|440ep|2000/060|2000/040|1000 |

Interesting. The first set of Qt applications I run on the Radeon HD usually crash immediately with OpenGL errors listed. On the Radeon 9250 all Qt applications works fine, so not sure what is happening there.
I have updated the blog entry to reflect your feedback, since it was obviously only my initial experience using Qt.
I have done some subsequent testing on qt applications and it seems to follow what you said regarding what qt applications runs on the Radeon HD and what doesn't.
In my defence it is 2:30am here in Australia as I type this, so I am not at my best!
My apologies for the error.
Catcha, Epsilon

this is what i thought as well, I get loads of little errors and crash problems on a number of Qt apps so just assumed you needed the dual graphics setup.
PS: nice blog update. Last edited by amigang on 24-Aug-2013 at 04:56 PM.

Hi Epsilon, great review :)
For Tetzle, is it fast enough to play on your X1000 ?
Me, too, I have an X1000 with a R9250 (an OpenGL card is needed for Tetzle) but this game is too slow on my setup.
I released it because it seems fast enough on "native" Warp3D systems (from amigans who tests it).
Thank you.
Edit : if you want to test sound on Qt apps, try CutePiano (not a port, a self made Qt program) or Metronome.
Edit: I forgot to ask... Do you encounter some slowness when you use Qt apps (or NetSurf) with your dual GFX setup ? Me, yes. Even if I use my HD6670 card, some graphics seems to be allocated on my 9250 card and it dramatically decrease performance of big Qt programs like QtWeb. Same problem with NetSurf.
Thank you for your feedback on this "problem", reported here
