As always great read. I'm still yet to get around to updating my Bios so it allows for linux but like you said I got this machine for OS4 so trying out linux on the X1000 is quite a low priority, but its really nice to see that linux support has been done so well and now you can get nearly a dummy proof copy is even better, maybe my next holiday I will get around to doing this and spending some much needed time on my X1000, cant believe its been nearly two years I've owned it, how time files.

I have written another blog entry this weekend, this time looking at the ACube Games Bundle DVD for AmigaOS4 on my X1000.

Link is here:

Video playback Linux:
Just an idea... DVD (720p) and downloaded Youtube clips playback very well on my X1000/Lubuntu HD Installation. Seems, that on some X1000 they did not set the cpu state to 1800Mhz by default. After I entered this as bootcommand in CFE, I had a magnificant speed up in Linux:

setenv -p MENU_8_COMMAND 'set pmu -astate=A4 ; setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sda4" ; boot -elf -noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-3.9.0-2'

a4 = 1800Mhz

Hi All,

I have completed the second part of my blog entry about the recently released Ubuntu Remix DVD on the AmigaOne X1000, covering the installation of it on the X1000.

The link for the second part is here:

http://amigax1000.blogspot.com.au/2014/02/a-eon-ubuntu-remix-on-x1000-part-2.html

If you missed the first part it is here:

I hope you enjoy them!

Thanx for the Blog Update, as many others said before, one of the most useful Amiga One related pages.

Regarding Video Playback... Video Playback works very well on my setup. Could you provide a linke to a video you tested, and tell me exactly what/when "problems" occur. So I can test that Video on my setup...

Regards Gero

I love me some Epsilon blog. :) Always enjoy reading your entries.

Just chiming in to clear up a bit of confusion I see earlier in this dicussion and frequently in IRC and other forum discussions..... DVD is not 720p. It is 480p. In video 720p is 1280x720 and 1080p is 1920x1080. Playing and working with high-def video (which starts with 720p) has been a struggle with AmigaOS to date, but I'm looking forward to the day when our software and hardware support is better suited for it. I am patient. (Patience is a reluctant skill for me, but it is necessary in Amigaland!)

Use Minitube to play Youtube videos. It should work well. It's included with the install.

I've found that VLC (also included) also work a lot better that MoviePlayer,

Also Firefox should be set up to use Viewtube, but you may need to set VLC as the default player in the options.

This lets you play all Youtbe videos from within Firefox (if you wish), in multiple replay formats (depending on the YouTube video)

Trevor

PS Excellent blog as usual

Hi Epsilon,

Unfortunately AmigaOS current Release Candidate of Timberwolf is to out of date to install the pluggin I am about to suggest. I was wondering if you or someone else could try it with the version of firefox on PPC ubuntu, it is a flash substitute that looks like it could be interesting if Steven Sollie gets around to updating Timberwolf or not?

The flash pluggin is called Shumway.

give it a try by installing it from here

@Fairdinkem

I'll try it later but VLC embedded within Firefox works pretty well IMHO.

The following ScreenGrab is Firefox playing a YouTube video with a list of all the Firefox video preferences showing all the video file types that will play within firefox with VLC as the default player.

@TrevorDick

Thanks for the kind feedback about my blog!

I tried out Minitube and confirm it works quite well under Ubuntu on the X1000 - thanks for the suggestion.

I have updated the blog entry to mention MiniTube.

Regarding Viewtube settings - I haven't checked that yet but plan to over the weekend (time permitting).

For YouTube videos, you can use similar SMTube under AmigaOS4 too

Update: 1080 YouTube video now playing OK in Firefox

Details will be included in the next versions of the Live Ubuntu Remix Installation instructions.
