@Spectre660

Quote:
Extended memory functionality

Quote:
New unified graphics library with RTG support which allows for (current and future) very substantial general and platform specific performance optimizations e.g. through the use of on-chip DMA engines (present on recently released hardware going back to the Sam440)

These two alone would justify bump to 4.2.

Although my current setup will not much benefit from this update (WinUAE), it will be nice Christmas present.

That is indeed a nice price for a stand-alone product!
The OS plus the updates all-in-one...great!

Where do I get it from?

@thread

In an earlier post I said that the new release was an update, and required a previous license.

The information was from a reliable source at that time.

As has been mentioned in a press release since then, my information was incorrect.

I regret giving the wrong info. On the other hand, I am glad that the new release will have a wider audience.

Did I just hear in the stream that OS4 runs in UAE now? did Hyperion change their EULA?

There is no word on different platforms. I wonder if it is includes all current platforms.

@Overflow

Thanks! but is it officially supported? If it is, this is huge - like a 99% discount on a $3000 X1000 and UAE on a modern 3GHz PC probably runs faster than a SAM460.

Not my words, but direct from the press release.

I was considering to buy a Sam460CR, but now my options are:

1. Buy Sam460CR with OS4.1 and then buy OS4.1 Final again for a total of 150 Euro for the OS (Lol, NO)

2. Buy Sam460CR and get no OS4. Wait until Final is out and buy it for 30 Euro (and eat my fingernails waiting).

3. Wait until Final is out and buy the Sam460CR then, risking that all stock is gone.

Aargh.

@CodeSmith

I havent read the fineprint about the Emulation, but Toni seems to be doing it out of pure curiousity/fun?
And obviously, as he posted about it on EAB people started donating money to him, which obviously
motivates a developer even more.

If Toni suddenly decided to stop developing the PPC emulation today, you would still be able to run PPC, but Hyperion and Toni is under no obligation to support people that decides to spend money on the OS without the actual Amiga NG hardware.

So, what Im saying; buy OS4 for emulation at your own risk. Many have done so, and are enjoying fiddling with it, but dont expect to play ALL your games etc without crashes and bugs.

Someone please correct me if im wrong

Exactly.

OS4 Classic is stable in my experience (until it runs out of memory...). I had only one non-low memory situation related crash - in internet prefs.

Author of FS-UAE did help Tony, Frank Wille also by providing infos. For 30 euros it's worth the try! How many did buy Amiga Inc T-Shirt? it was 50$ :)

no wonder, they have reconsidered. in the end, what is there yet to lose, except it might gave the project the last stab otherwise. it is a step towards the right course, even if i must skip on it, since i dont have an interest left for ppc platform for whatever price, especially the hardware is still prohibiting and it is much too late to correct anything.
