If i remember right, Alain's wazp3d on aros also works via opengl (same as on mos where it via tinigl) , so compare can be more or less fair.
And that indeed can be interesting to compare something like radeon7750 or so on aros, to see speed of gallium. _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

I have read a little... it seems you are right that Warp3D is only a wrapper on MESA/Gallium. I could do tests using Windows hosted (I am right now developing a distribution based on it). Of course results depend on hardware, how you install it and so on. Windows hosted runs at the same speed as any other Windows application (from first tests). |

I mean you can build it without linux, on some usual aros distro: you only need gcc + system includes. I remember when i do some aros ports, i just download latest nightly, and everything was in.

Little update with my G5 2.7 and Radeon X800:
Quake III 1280x1024 - 134fps Cow3D with Wazp3d - 218 fps, after pressing t and b speed goes down to about 182 fps

Criticism of the overall business model and decisions, whilst it may be valid, is irrelevant when it comes to discussing benchmarks and more than a bit unfair to try to heap that onto criticism of Hans's gfx driver.
If we're comparing with MorphOS (your Efika comparison) then it would be disrespectful to not mention Will Morris (RIP) funding accelerated development of the r300 3D driver used in that benchmark - it wasn't 'free' either.
The bundled cards/order of release of drivers is also nothing to do with the benchmarks or Hans. A-Eron could hold this back till the 6xxx series drivers are done... whenever that will be... but chose to offer them now.
The numbers themselves are poor, but they give A-Eon's customers a facility they didn't have before at a useable (if not award winning) standard.

And the result are so crappy, that I doubt it will be able to "tweak" them as some people seem to hope. I think it suggest some big things, like wrong choices of some technology, something implemented completely wrong or whatever. I doubt any "optimizing" will give much when the starting point is this unbelievable low. |
Couldn't tell you, I have no insight into Warp3d or the Radeon driver. Most people Ikve spoken to over the years aim for function and stability first, speed second. Time will tell, there's clearly the room for some major speed improvements.

this is an old version. cow3d5 may demand features aros wazp3d version doesnt yet provide. therefore it is faster too. i dont think wazp for aros will be upgraded any soon. mazze has other things to do and there is no software to make it worthwhile. but you can try. |

| @Pampers Quake3 results looks interesting.. I mean if for sam460 you have 102 fps, then 2.7ghz mac should give you a lot more imho ? Sure, not all depends on CPU, but it should help anyway. Or x800 just a worse card in compare with that one which you have in sam460 ?
Cow3d results looks only a little worse in compare with x5000 / radeonhd7750. But for first and wazp3d layer involved (so add few more fps to morphos test), for second beta version of w3d driver on aos4 for now optimized more and give better results than public ones, and for third x5000 hw is just newer with all those buses, cashes, and ddr3 and whatever else.
So probably in terms of warp3d driver itself, aos4 one are ok. But when it come to opengl without TCL, then .. :) _________________ Join us to improve dopus5! zerohero's mirror of os4/os3 crosscompiler suites |

This is still the old Warp3D API system that have existed in AmigaOS for long time, things has improved on other operating systems. but not so much on AmigaOS.
Hans has written drivers for this old fashion 3D API, with its limitations, Warp3D has never been fast. MorphOS has dropped Warp3D for something else (Rave3D) long ago, this can easily explain way we do not have good FPS rates.
The aim here is simply to provide 3D, while we are waiting for a new 3D system called gallium, at least this is how I understand it.
I have been happy to be able to try out some of the 3D Games, some of newer once I have not tried before like smoking guns, Star-wars Jedi Academy so I think this is great.

MorphOS never used Warp3D as an API for OpenGL. Warp3D was only for legacy Amiga applications. It was Rave3D that was dropped. |

I'd say it's X800 + AGP which are slower than PCI-E and X1950 PRO. |
