@pavlor

but real programming on 4.X started I think 2001 or 2002, long after Aros and MorphOS. They used reworked original 3.1 sources from 1996 and then added components from 3.5/3.9 when possible because H&P did not cooperate there. That is how I have read it in the forums.

I completely agree and have absolutely no expectations that'll ever happen at this point. I'm just here to rekindle an old flame and have some fun!

I am not aware that the AmigaOS camp is able to detect additional cores and use them at all and that would be needed to do that at all on software level. I know that the aros devs have managed to do that. Other than that not everything even skilled persons say is necessarily well thought and true. We will see who is right as soon AmigaOS runs on it.

It sounds a little like multithreading... rather theoretical here

It's simply an AMP design. It can be done transparently by the o.s., or it can also provide APIs in order to let applications offload jobs to the other cores (but SMP doesn't needed such APIs).

I don´t think AROS or MorphOS are there since 1992.

That was a different thing. It was the normal Amiga o.s., running on an Amiga chipset (AAA, I think), and on a 68K processor.

AmigaOS 4, as it's now, started on 2001, as a port to PowerPC of the Amiga o.s. version 3.1. So, it's the youngest of the three post-Amiga o.ses.

now, just to interrupt off topic. according to people vising the show, the price figure was personal opinion of person in charge of presenting the board (xeno?), so its either been simply his expectation or maybe there were some internal considerations, that unintentionally leaked to the public. who can tell?

Ah yes...'express my personal opinion', I need to cool my jets on that one myself.

But, as has been mentioned, no one is 'cloning' OS4.
It was the last out of the gate.

All three NG OS' attempt some level of support for the OS3.1 API, but only OS4 attempts to essentially clone OS3.1 in PPC form.

And we didn't ask Stefan Stuntz to create MUI4 (now @ MUI5) for MorphOS as an Amiga compatibility feature.
Its just good software.

AOS MUI4 is in itself, somewhat of a clone, which I don't object to as it gives us some compatibility.

@pavlor

well I'm really curious about Tabor's blender test on single and dual core vs Sam460ex...
And possibly with 2.48 ;)
