the question remains how much this code is worth today in therms of fixing and updating but at least its good to have another reference preserved. time will tell what happens with it. whatever outcome i can finally applaud for a decent move, say thanks on my part and wish all involved good luck with it. |

It's a shame that it's just a code dump, rather than an import from whatever revision control system they used. This way, the complete development history has been lost.
(Also, is it just me, or is that "share alike" clause in the LICENSE file a bit, uhh, "interesting", given the Friedens' own past approach to the MDL and "spirit of [...] true open source"?)

That's still in there. Whether it still applies is unclear....
Also interesting, given the authors' day job, is the somewhat liberal use of Forbid()/Permit() in amigos_process.c... |

The "first barf" happened three years ago, when somebody (we still don't know who) handed over 7000 Euros for an unfinished port without informing anybody or doing any sort of quality assurance.
But yeah, let's yell some more at umisef.
That said: Good move. Finally. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the timberwolf bounty prohibits ports to any other platforms?
Also, since Pegasos 2 is "official AmigaOS system", would Pegasos 2 only MorphOS port be ok? |

This seems very vague to me. Was there a secret clause in the bounty preventing this to be handled in a certain way because of the money was derived from a bounty ?
And well as Jupp3 wrote, there is a lot of different OS you can run on an official AmigaOS system for sure =)
Regardless, it's good to see the source openedLast edited by Develin on 30-Oct-2015 at 03:51 PM.

i see.. must admit my first knee jerk comment about it was way too positive. apparently stuff hidden away in there like the license restrictions that have been included, whether they apply or not, are as usual meant to prohibit a cooperative work on this material. should have expected that this isnt a gesture of good will.
nevertheless, good luck to os4 audience, you are now clearly on your own with this. lets see what happens next.

is this limitation still valid? open source bound to one platform?

The port refers to Firefox version 3 or 4?
Firefox code changed significantly meanwhile, starting from the memory management.

It is my understanding that one should write to the Friedens, the copyright holders, if one is interested in participating.

Right...like there is any serious animosity between MorphOS developers and the Friedens. They just work for Big Satan (Ben Hermanns), and to the best of my knowledge, Hermans is the one that has fostered any animosity.
The clause makes sense if you realize that Timberwolf was designed to be an OS4 project. This is just their way of saying "Here you deal with it".
There ARE times when you fellows push these two guys too hard.
BTW - Firefox could be a target after MorphOS moves to X64, but more than likely they will still support Fab's version of OWB (since the endian issues in the latest webkit versions would be solved).

I already got bashed by Gutjahr because of commenting it...
I still think it is silly to connect open source to a certain platform. To me the opposite what open source stands for. Perhaps only a misunderstanding.
And if not be it... |

| @OlafS25 Well, the source is full of the usual OS4isms anyway. Probably not useful on any other system (including classic) without a massive rewrite. (Still, it's probably OK as a reference.) Last edited by Chain-Q on 30-Oct-2015 at 05:25 PM.
