@zzd10h

if you point the others to their specific forums then I could say too keep AmigaOS discussions on amgans.net or Hyperion support forum. That would be the same.

BTW I have bought PPaint 68k (even registered in Amistore) and I have "AmigaOS classic"

As long discussions are not just emotional and bashing people must tolerate it (at least on a general board). And if you try to extend the userbase of amigaos beyond current then you will get even much more critical responses in "real world" forums.

It's a real shame nothing will eventuate from this, I sincerely wish that they would remove from the AmigaOS website that AmigaOS has a Firefox port called Timberwolf because this port is embarrassing at best.

@Fairdinkem

Regarding the status this project was left I agree completely!
It should have been released much earlier to the public.

Now it's at least about two or three ears behind the actual firefox technology - and
that's pretty much in this rapidly ongoing technology.

I don't know what the code is worth today - we will see what happens....

Another big problem with AmigaOS developement is that there are only hard find
maintainers to ports that have been done for AmigaOS.

It seems sometimes to me they are thrown in the wild....and that's it.
Definitely not to blame to the porters - but if this situation continues
I'm afraid we will see more dead sw bodies like timberwolf.

@fastbit66

AmigaOS desperately needs Galium we have gone far to long without hardware 3D acceleration and we badly need a modern web browser that is in parity with modern browsers ie Firefox, Safari, chrome etc.

I know I am merely stating the obvious but without these breakthroughs I fear AmigaOS will never move forward with software porting.

@PR

Timberwolf is the browser that is most like Microsoft internet explorer. It needs to be finished and made faster so it's usable.

Internet Explorer was only ever popular because it was bundled with Windows. It isn't a benchmark in browsers. Netscape led the way which was replaced with Firefox which was quickly caught up by Google's Chrome browser. Given the choice and knowledge no one would choose to use Microsoft's offering and Timberwolf has value because it's the closest to Firefox we have not because it's like I.E.!

That has always struck me as a little bloated for an NG OS.
What you need is 3D drivers, that doesn't have to be via Galium.

You have Morphzone or Aros-exec to do that.

THAT is the attitude I wanted to hear an OS4 fanatic espouse.

Since, OF COURSE, no MorphOS or AROS user has any interest in Amiga in general, do they?

Funny, I still have my legacy Amiga hardware and have supported A-eon since its inception (Also I knew Paul Gentle before I ever heard of Trevor).

And I don't have to "look" clever, I'm already pretty damned smart (217 College credits 3.79 GPA - still taking classes, may one day have my doctorate).

Also in the late '80s and early '90s I was working for a company that designed 68K based systems.

So if I tell you an e500v2 cored PPC is a bad pick for ALL our interests, there is nothing Smarmy or anti OS4 about it.
We've known for awhile that that core is not a good pick for an Amiga related OS (it has been repeatedly discussed in the past).

No amount of inferred "you must tow the party line" crap is likely to sway me.

So, if I was willing to piss off Andre Siegel on MorphZone over this, what makes you think I'm likely to listen to your partisan nonsense?

Edit - To bring it back to the topic, I actually respect the Frieden brothers.
They have already stated that they don't think this project is well suited to the Amiga platform and I'm sure they are damned tired of hearing about Timberwolf and the stupid bounty.
So, here you are, the code you paid for.
They don't really want it.

Stop beating Timberwolf to death and just use OWB.

Exactly!

I am quite sure the goal of the bounty was AmigaOS port of the Firefox web browser, not unusable crap. Friedens should never get the money... This is not the code people payed for, it's unfinished version at best.

Still, it was first real port of Firefox for AmigaOS (or similar platform). For me, it was really satisfying feeling to see this beast on Amiga - albait in slow motion.

timberwolf was not an (os4) community bounty accidentally appointed to said developers. it was their project, with which they had tried to establish an exclusive feature for os4 ("its not a browser, its technology"). someone had approached the community, apparently on their behalf, to support this financially and so the bounty had been set up. im not sure you are backing the correct side, rewriting the history. as usual. alas.

@wawa

rewriting history as usual?

Hmm, that kind of BS would normally set me off, but not anymore.

Look, after working on it, they came to feel that it was not suitable for the market.
If you think they were wrong, YOU do it.
They have given you their code.

You know, I understand why those two avoid interacting with you fanboys.

You abuse them, their work, and their opinions far to much.

There is one lesson you could learn from the MorphOS community.
We have more respect for our developers.
And they have never received anything that could be considered defaming or threatening (and the Friedens have received both),.
Also OUR developers will still talk to us.

So like I said before, get over it (and yourselves) and use OWB.

Really? I think he is another one of the nimrods pointing fingers.

This has nothing to do with other NG OS'.

But I do find it interesting that when that kind of thing comes up. its usually from an OS4 fanatic.

Thanks God I still have friends that use multiple NG OS'.
They have more perspective and don't allow themselves to be so polarized.

No one is attacking OS4, and personally I'm beginning to like the Friedens more than the OS4 users (and I have always thought VERY highly of Trevor Dickinson ).

Ever thought it might be zzd10h's problem? Because I don't have time for thin skinned people.

Im writing this from Timberwolf on my X5000.
This is the first time i use timberwolf in years, i had forgoten how nice this browser really is.

Would be cool if someone could take the sources and polish it a bit and fix the remaining issues, It has an pretty old engine but seems to still do a pretty good job.
