We hereby announce a new Feature of SAGA chipset

Magic DMA engines

The new DMA engines provide the following features:
* CPU cache coherent.
No nasty cache flushed needed to use them

* fully honoring CPU MPU and MMU.
This means DMA can support virtual memory
Memory can be protected from overwrite by DMA
Bad DMA access can be catched with Enforcer like tools

We work right now on DMA engines/drivers for
* FAST-IDE controller
* SDCard Controller
* Network Controller

The DMA engines are really fast.
This combination of performance and features (as MMU support) was never seen on any Amiga hardware before.

@Overflow

Thanks for sharing! Very impressive videos showing off the Vampire.

I noticed there are over 2000 people in queue for the A500 and A600 versions of the Vampire now. Imagine the numbers when the A1200 version is announced!

Just to be clear the number on http://orders.apollo-accelerators.com/ is not the queue length, it is the total expressions of interest including orders that have already been completed (but possibly/probably not including the original Amibay pre-orders or orders completed by kipper2k prior to moving ordering to the apollo-accelerators site AFAIK).

@Mr-Z

I agree, that is one of the worst videos I have seen trying to demonstrate anything, and the audio was terrible as well.

That tally includes orders that have already been placed as well.

From Gunnar on Apollo forum;

Quote:
Speedup of original A600 IDE Hardware. No hardware mod needed. Apollo 68080 will give your original chipset a significant speedup.

mjnurney/Michael Nurney has finally gotten the Elgato hooked up for HD caputure of Vampire600 usage, and considering how active he is, I expect a stream of V600 videos being uploaded to his channel.

The upcoming GOLD3 will provides the following features:
* AUTOVEC fix
Due to the hardware design of some Amiga models (some A500)
There was a chance of IRQ glitching.
This is fixed now with GOLD3.

* FAST-IDE for A600
The IDE bus protocol is fully programmable now.
Depending on the combination of your drive/main board/CF-adapter IDE transfer rates of up to 7 MB/sec can be reliably reached.
We will provide you a software tool to measure which speed is safe and reliable supported by your hardware.

* Scan-lines
A new CRT-look-like scanline mode allow you to run your favorite ARCADE games (MAME,C64,NINTENDO,..) with a look matching the original CRT.

************************

For a deep testrun on as many as possible A600 systems we look for volunteer testers.
If you have an A600, a Blaster, and like to take part in the Fast-IDE testing/ championship.
Then please contact us on IRC.

btw worth to mention this is v500 ide port, not an internal a600 one. just to avoid easy misunderstandings. up to 7 mb/s on internal ide is impressive enough anyway.

Heretic is my favourite game! Doom in fantasy setting with better graphics (optimized for 256 colours) and some interesting concepts (tome of power). Worth of play on every platform.

What better presentation you have in mind?

ld love to see owb under aros68k;) alas it is broken just now, maybe olafs distro contains a working version.

ah, kidding, im sure none will set it up except me, i get a vampire one day.
but, say, utilities where some speedup matters would be fine:
1. sdl games, that have been running only under uae at acceptable speed till now. (artur ports and other)
2. more demanding genuine amiga games, i think ab3d-tkg has been demoed along with the rtg patch. maybe trapped or something like that?
3. traditional raytracers like lightwave, real3d, imagine, reflections, c4d, running in rtg and rendering to a window.
4. perhaps some traditional animation players, morphing tools, in general there have been some video tools i only vaguely recall, clarissa, main actor and the like. dunno if they would gain anything.
...

thats just off the sleeve. need to think of it a bit.
