*sigh*

Reading threads on AW is like watching a really old soap opera that has run out of ideas, and just reuse the same old plots over and over again.

@Yasu

it is like throwing a bone and everyone immediately biting at it... but in my case I did not think long enough about it before posting, just a reaction to Massi preferring "Commodore Amiga" and not to provoke the AmigaOS fans

@OlafS25

Personally, I was never a Commodore fanatic, since it was the 68K CPU that drew me to the Amiga.
So, there are times when the passions here confuse me.

I do not see that kind of passion in all camps.

you must be careful where you post your opinion

I personal do not really care... it is just a hobby

I just think we really don't need to prove which is the "real" thing anymore. People here have different ideas what the Amiga is, and it's just futile to convince anyone that X is better than Y. Or more true.

Furthermore, it's all coming from Amiga origins so we don't have to doubt that people do what they do because they want to preserve their vision of Amiga.

Let's just stop this once and for all and concentrate on making the best with what we got, supporting each other instead. Stick with what you like but rejoice with other peoples successes and not making fun of other peoples failiures.

But why am I writing this? This has also been told year after year without much change. We are still at each other throats. Well then, don't be surprised if more and more would-be-returnes just decide to stay away.

That's funny. I had a girlfriend twice and I should have known better the first time.

I suppose that guy wasn't really asking how you got together?

That IS funny.
I was married once, and that should have been enough to make me steer clear of women entirely, but I still talk to them (I even talk to my ex on occasion).

As to jihadist Amiga splinter groups...now they are dangerous.

Well I never got that far. But having a first girlfriend, then second girlfriend, then breaking up and going back to the first; well it's just damned confused me and I don't know which one was the last girlfriend I had.

@Overflow

Ok so to summerize.. no new progress at all for software development for the platform, no progress in the actual OS or bugfixes.. just a new release for more exotic over priced hardware. Is that the take away?

Well, I wouldnt know

What I do know, after frequenting Apollo-Team IRC channel for about 1 week;

They are superactive and responsive to questions (obviously not when working on Apollo), pretty much daily.
They explain where they are at with development and issues/solutions they are thinking about.
A very open and informative method of interacting with the community.

Its right for Apollo, and it would probarly be good for AOS4.x community/developers to consider the same.

In principle: yes, that's it.

And even if there is or will be more than that, I assume there won't be any further comments/roadmaps/*specific* plans from Hyperion in public forums. They stopped a rather long time ago doing that and everybody knows why.
On the other hand I don't see the MorphOS-Team talking all day about their plans and hyper-specific roadmaps and what-might-be, either - they just do something and release. I like that.

@cha05e90

communication is important when you want to win new users and developers

Who will invest in a platform when he not knows what is happening and has reliable roadmap where the platform goes to. That is expecially the case for a small platform that is not yet big enough to be commercial viable. I would not for sure.

@OlafS25

I agree with you concerning this. If one wants to reach out to potential customers, one must "be on the ball" when it comes to communication. If there is no communication and not much in the way of marketing, then the product/brand/thingumabob doesn't seem so vital or exciting.

As Overflow wrote, the Vampire crew is doing the right thing, causing a storm amongst Amigans with videos, activity in forums and so forth. I think the coming of the Vampire II is almost a revolution amongst Amigans with so much interest. Seems like the 68K scene is very, very vibrant these days with new games and what not. I'm definitely getting a Vampire II for the A1200 when it is out, or if the temptation is too high, get an Amiga 600 and a Vampire.

Maybe Hyperion could show the progress of AmigaOS 4 on the new hardware with some videos of the system in action? Would be interesting to see what the X5000 can do. Show off some games, tools etc, to cause some interest among potential buyers. Or how about show-casing some upcoming game ports if they have some in the pipeline? I see there are Linux-stuff out there, but I believe people are much more hungry for AmigaOS 4 vids and pics. ;)
