@TRIPOS

You should update linked post with benchmarks of more recent revision of Warp3D SI in HD resolution.

Not that this changes basic truth of "crappy OS/driver support". One can´t expect miracles from nearly 18 years old API deemed obsolete even before OS4 release. Nova could bring some fresh air there.

ok with glxgears.
Try in linux Torcs and SuperTuxkart.
you'll have interesting surprises

Only one core is used in all os and all architectures. Just better drivers on x86 and old osx ppc some parts was in asm and drivers was made by nvidia and amd (for linux x86 and osx)

There are certainly several factors to take in consideration when talking about benchmarks, like for example:
- the way Glxgears is built for the various systems
- x86 have larger cpu caches than ppc
- driver efficiency of course

It's about drivers. With crappy OS/driver support, it doesn't help if you are using new Radeon HD R9 cards.

Yes but not only, as replied to tlosm.
I am a software developer and I am perfectly aware of what we are talking about

i guess its actually not a surprize. doom3 was released 2004 and wasnt that demanding a game at its time as far as far as i remember. its almost a dungeon, practically everything happens there is a closed rigid environment wit a bit more detail. i dont remember exactly what win setup i have played that with, but it wasnt an up to date one, i had some shader errors.

@wawa

the point was about performances ...
Same game doom3 on Osx perform 100 times more better than linux PPc this on G5 quad.

@all

I honestly think that the only chace for Tabor to sell in good number was to have a full system price(included FULL AmigaOS4(no Warp3D NOVA/RadeonHD drivers fees)) at maximum about 300 EUR

At much it dont have any sense imho...

dunno if an OpenCL imlementation can modify poor fpu performances and in that case ok we have an option but...any clue here?

Ciao Simone,

now they want to fool us that the FPU performance is not important in order to hide a totally bad choice of the CPU itself.

I doubt it will be a cheap 300, 00 EUR product.

@Massi

Ciao Massi.

The low price was the ONLY reason for that board imho...
I also think that the cpu was at least weird also because since no OS4 final on x5000 yet means that on Tabor we see OS4 next year unortunately(since they state that work on OS4 for Tabor will start after x5000 OS4 completion) and thats bad...

Judging by boot screen of OS4 on Tabor, some work started on this port.

probably in present yes. in past something was different when ppc was the main cpu on apple.

for example the old 9200se on a mac mini on linux ppc make 4000fps on glxgears . this because the ppc asm driver.... now lastest are all no asm and full of code exclusion for endianess

I wait to see the "price / performance" ratio.

I think that compared to your system Tabor performances will be quite 2x faster in integer, but really slower in FPU unfortunately...

OK, I don' t think this is acceptable, I purchased my SAM in mid 2010 and I would never change it for a Tabor, no way!

@Massi

But as I pointed out before, if you recompile your programs to Tabor, the FPU speed might be OK, my issue with it, is that it's not right type of CPU that’s all,

In world of open sourced and none open source software, it's not ideal.
On the other hand you have PCIe slots like Sam460, X1000 and X5000 that is coming so it not all bad.

But as I wrote before I will not spend time making differing version of programs to support Tabor users.
