Yesterday I connected to A-Eon website and noticed that page dedicated to X5000 is changed, now it seems possible to pre-order a complete system or the Cyrus mainboard only.

http://www.a-eon.com/?page=x5000

I tried to pre-order the motherboard only but at the moment to send the reservation an error occurred, I think the web page is stil under construction.

In any case it seems the time to buy the new x5000 is coming!

It must be, since it doesn't mention the price anywhere. Maybe that comes with the second phase of the page development...

This is getting silly. I have almost managed to save up to an X5000, which I never thought I would be able to do before it's release, considering the rate at which I can save. The release of X5000 doesn't feel any closer than it did a half a year ago. I could stand the waiting if it wasn't for the complete lack of progress reports. I would like to know what's happening! I know that press releases and promises in the Amiga realm has a very bad history and may be seen as bad omens. Is that why we don't get to know anything?

@Rose

It is due in two weeks.
But OS4.2 won't be ready. ;)

My .2€. They can only sale it as a Linux box right now. Morphos is maybe ready but as OS4 is not they probably polish it and I suppose that AEON don't wanna launch the X5000 first under Morphos.

@kamelit0

You might be right about MorphOS. I bet they could sell it as a Linux box to start with otherwise. That's how they did with AmigaOne G4XE. I was one of the Early bird users. That's how I learned to use Linux.

Maybe it's as simple as there isn't anything to say? Isn't that a plausible explanation at this point?

I think everyone should just hold on to their money:

1) Until: AeonKit has managed to explain the future of the PPC platform in a desktop context. Where will the PPC H/W platform be in 5-10 years? And beyond that (5 years appears to be a normal development period for AeonKit)? Note that "Freescale"/NXP has kind of given up on PPC (we already knew that really, didn't we?), while investing in an ARM future instead. Just like AMCC. Etc. What else will there be? What will it cost? Is there any realism there at all, or has it in fact ended already?

2) Until: Hyperion has managed to explain the future of OS4. Especially in a PPC context, since it's tied to PPC (connect the dots to "point 1" above). The de-facto "development pace" of OS4 the last 5+ years, the developer situation, etc, should be enough to sound the emergency alarm in most peoples brains. Right?

I think it's fair to ask these questions before putting down the kind of money AeonKit asks for its products.

And no, the purchase of PPaint etc 1995 level S/W and a re-release of it in a semi-functional custom "App Store" isn't really the answer to any of the questions above...

@the usual suspects: please let the above sink in a bit, before making your usual "you are trolling" reflex response. Maybe there actually is a point here...?

I think you missed point there. People want pay for over-priced and out-dated hardware, but companies take no money!

To be more serious (and to your points)... unlike (still only) announcements of others, OS4 now runs on "x86" computers - from desktops to tablets. With or without CPU architecture change "x86" is the future.

What would be a viable answer to this? I'm guessing you have an answer you'd like to hear in order to put your money in the PPC future?

Now, this I can agree with. But I think we know it: add support for the two cores in X1000.

I don't know if I'm part of the usual suspects, but in all honestly, are there still people who think that the PPC desktop market will make it big anytime soon? Like, do we honestly think people will in five years time see OS4 available in the local super market? If you want to run OS4, you are tied to PPC (in one way or the other), and that's the current future of the OS4 desktop platform.

And then again you might not.
Just showing it running does not mean that it is ready for sale.
The development team has stated that the next revision will not be released until it runs on all supported platforms.

@you_know_who
I say just go ahead and preorder the X5000 as soon as the pre-order is open, if that's what you want to do. No one should tell you how to spend your money.

Sure, others may point out facts about the shape of the industry and the questionable future of the Power hardware and AmigaOS 4, but it is your right to ignore these facts and do whatever you want with your hard-earned money.

There's a saying where I come from which translates to: The blind don't believe the deaf.
And so you will never see what others are trying to show you as you're convinced they aren't listening.

@Niolator

I've saved up enough for an AmigaOne X5000 as well. At this point, if I found an old Datsun 620 Crew Cab in decent condition, I fear the X5000 money would go elsewhere

Of course the 620 Crew Cab may be rarer than the X5000.
