This is strictly coincidental mind you, but...

during the course of this thread

it became apparent a new AW account needed to be formed to replace the old.

Hyperionmp became HyperionHolding, as you can see. While that does beg the question how much thought went into choosing that particular moniker, I maintain it's strictly coincidental.

Welcome to the Amiga theater.

Act 1: the CEO of the one-person-company Hyperion, while searching for some lesbian p*rn, stumbled over a page with AmigaOS updates. He sent a cease and desist letter to the webmaster.

Act 2: DJBase: I'm treated legally while I'm trying to be helpful to the community. Kiss my ass, smell my gas. Move #?amiga#? To trashcan:

Act 3: Journalist and frustrated ex Hyperion fanboy Gutjahr made an article on amiga-news.

Act 4: "Hyperion, the evil"

Act 5: thor ond olsen explained the backgrounds

Act 6: Hyperion fans claiming DjBase to be a hysteric pussy.

Act 7: AROS fans laughing their ass up

Final: everybody singing: only Amiga makes it possible, only Amiga makes it happen

A 'helpful' software pirate is still that It doesn't matter how old the software is don't share someone else's property online without their permission. It's not a hard concept but maybe if you were used to attending X-Copy parties growing up you think it's perfectly normal to 'steal' Amiga software

Exactly. Vampire cards are for A500 and A600, and those systems were all running OS3.9 long before Vampire anyways.

About the ApolloOS thing, I have no sympathy for this. Because there are other ways you can do it, without piracy of old OS files.

For example, if you install ClassicWB you are asked to insert the OS disk during installation.

The same thing happens if you install AmigaSys, user is are asked to insert the OS disks during installation.

Or they provide it as a Apollo Enhancement package install it on top of AmigaOS. There is at least 2 ways they can avoid the illegality. There is no need to provide AmigaOS files illegally.

There is simply no excuse.

@NutsAboutAmiga

Noone is making excuses. It is what it is.

Again; I bet the majority of the users on this site got multiple versions of AOS, including AOS3.9.
Its somewhat of a hassle to tweak, and require some expirience with the OS.

If the owner of the OS wants to prevent this from happening, maybe provide the base with similar versions?

Again, not making excuses, since most of us has paid moooore than enough into AOS3.x and 4.x as it is, as pure humatarian support, while expecting (and getting) nothing in return.

So spare me your outrage.

@broadblues

I think you understood my meaning broadblues.

Im sure there are several of us (many?!) that purchases alot of the software, both AOS3 and 4 related, that is currently being released, for the sole purpose of supporting active developers.
Like I purchased AOS4 FE and installed it via WinUAE, and purchased the Enhancer package of AEON etc, even tho I dont use it much. Im a Vampire user atm for the most part, but I do support the actions of AEONkit regardless.

IF there had been a glimmer of activity with regards to AOS3 development, I wouldnt have taken the attitude I did in my last post.
That said; I have some hopes there might be development going forward with Olaf Barthel's comments on EAB. We will see.
But as it has been up to now, most/many of us has been paying for AOS3.x versions left right and center just to keep the few vendors we have left afloat.

So downloading and using ApolloOS is somehow restricted to owners of Vampire owners? I would presume it works just as well with a whole lot of other systems as well. Except for the handful of programs written for 68EC080.

Vampire owners are in general too ... challenged to install AmigaOS on their own? :)

Maybe because that for so many of them, this is the first meeting with AmigaOS since early 90s? That is certainly my impression, since concepts like RTG and other "modern" (relatively speaking) concepts are so alien to them.

Weeeeell, installing AOS3x is super easy, but tweaking it like what Ive seen on youtubes from ApolloOS require some more work.
Everyone can do it by researching the interwebz, and fiddeling, but yeah.

Yes, and? This has been the case forever, why should Vampire owners need different "rules" than other users?

There are quite a number of new posts from Olaf on the topic most of you are discussing, should you care to read them.

He's moved from amiganews to eab now. heh.

And a.org as well.

Curious to find out what he means by option #3. Based on his previous messages, I'd be inclined to think he means open source.

I thought I had read that it required the WB 3.1 install disks while installing. It might have other stuff too but I am pretty sure that it asks for the original disks a lot like ClassicWB installation.

I have not tired it myself.

I love the idea of an ApolloOS to make it easier to setup the SD card etc etc but it should grab all the required files live of off appropriate sites on the internet, ask for original install media for WB etc and then make an image on your machine for installation.
