@clusteruk

I also forwarded news on italian Amiga sites. So then user Mck got aware of the situation and donated a small amount of money him too.

I hope other people donated privately.

Do you think I should tweet this appeal to Amiga and Retrocomputing people on Twitter too?

@Raffaele

Going by a response in Aros-Exec on this post below and from the amount sent from here and over there it seems the immediate problem has been eased. Long term I think the Patreon payments are very useful.

On a final note from me, I am incredibly humbled by the way this community has stood up to help Nick.

Thanks

So Kalamatee is back being an active AROS developer, but his financial situation isnt great.

I think its safe to say the eurozone workmarket isnt great, and I dont think the prospects of an improvement is good.

So while he hasnt asked for assistance via Apollo forum, it seems that he has shared his status internally in the Apollo/AROS dev team. So Pedro Cotter made a thread;

http://www.apollo-core.com/knowledge.php?b=10¬e=27202

Quote:
Guys this is important... as you know Kalamatee is working on Aros every day. We all sometimes suffer from financial difficulties and he is going through difficulties atm. He is supporting all the development costs alone and he cannot continue like this.
Aros development from Kalamatee side stopped until he gets again financial stability.
It would be nice if we all could help him Donating what you guys see fit
kalamatee@gmail.com this is the paypal email
If we are serious about Aros and the Vampire then please consider donating

thank you

The eurozone workmarket? Isn’t he living in “brexitzone” workmarket?

Friends and comrades and companions,

by throwing this guy your pocket change now and then, you're doing nothing but enabling him to keep fiddling with a pet project that puts no food on his table, rather than pushing him to the real world, to use his time to find a proper job like oh so many other developers out there.

BUT HE WORKS ON AROS AND WE LIKE AROS!
I can hear you crying.

You are in need, perhaps, of an example! You are, my friends, buying booze to an alcoholic because when he gets drunk he makes a funny little dance that you like oh so much!

THINK ABOUT IT, MY FRIENDS,
think about it.

Signed,
MEGA_RJ_MICAL (@MRJM)

We welcome MEGA_RJ_MICAL as new member of the AROS Development Team. His first contribution was a new MUI class called Exhaust.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

unfortunately, there is much more questionable morals behind a lot of stuff we do daily.

@wawa

Undoubtedly so, friend wawa,

but on this specific one we have a rare chance to see a direct cause/effect correlation.

And this is coming from someone who loves Aros, so as you can see I am putting morals over code™

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

im not sure if _not_ supporting nick would improve his situation. actually from my interaction he is a person of clear mind, otherwise he could not deliver what he does. i think that supporting work that someone like to do voluntarily, that contributes to a constructive case and that a number of people already value may be a life at least as worthy as employed on a position in some company.

@MEGA_RJ_MICAL

you are nerving "my friend"

In the past someone even offered him a job (of course not where he lives now) but it seems there are personal reasons why he stays where he is now (and not because of lethargy or Aros).

I do not know the details and it is not my job to judge or not

For Aros development he is a piece of luck so people who support Aros should support him financially. I did in the past (even recently) and will certainly do in future.

Comments like yours (without any background knowledge) are not really helping anyone

Actually, the bounty cannot be paid out unless the developer informs Power2People that the project has been fully completed, which has not happened.

The most recent update we received in 2017 stated that there was a known bug in the datatype still, which had yet to be fixed. An inquiry about a description of the bug that we could relay to testers went unanswered.

then please be clear about it, because your previous statement sounds as if the bounty was completed and the appointed developer has not claimed it.

now, what concerns the bug report, is the description available somewhere? i can try to confirm it and it can be included in the list of issues at aros-development-team github. i can do that too.
