Robert Anton Wilson, I think.

Red Hat had a release of Fedora a few years back called Schrodinger's Cat, so this all ties together somehow.

Technically Fedora's not a Red Hat product. I've been using Fedora since it was called "Red Hat 6" or something like that and as I recall it's an independent organization that Red Hat sponsors, in part because Red Hat incorporates their work into their own Linux. RH spun them off back in the early 00's.
I had a love-hate relationship for a long time and the only thing that kept me from jumping to Ubuntu or SuSE was the worry that I'd have to learn yet another completely new way of doing things.
These days I rather like what Fedora's become and now I worry that IBM will eventually end Red Hat's sponsorship of Fedora. I would not put it past them; a lot of comments online are saying that IBM's strategy today is to buy up companies instead of perform its own R&D, then eventually starve those new subsidiaries of resources until they wither away. And, you know, since the Internet says it, It Must Be True (TM).
Here's hoping Red Hat ends up more like Watson or Power, things that IBM actually stuck with, than OS/2 or (worse) Cell._________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. I think the non-enterprise version of Red Hat went all the way up to 9, if I remember correctly. That was about 2001, and I switched to Debian, then Ubuntu, then Mint. I read good things about Fedora, but I dislike both Gnome 3 and systemd, so the whole thing is kind of poison to me.
I'm taking a wait and see on IBM/Red Hat, but I'm not all that hopeful. It seems whenever a tech company gets past a certain size they become a nuisance. It's a mercy that Amiga never became a dominant platform; if they had, they would probably be "the enemy" right now.
Still, I remember how exciting it was twenty years ago when Avery Brooks was doing Linux commercials for IBM. Microsoft may have had the desktop, but we had Star Trek. Last edited by bison on 30-Oct-2018 at 02:57 AM.

I use the KDE Spin myself! The biggest problem I have with KDE isn't Fedora's fault; it's that KMail is terribly maintained. I quit using it a few months ago & switched to Claws-Mail, which means I don't have much of a calendar unfortunately._________________ I've decided to follow an awful lot of people I respect and leave AmigaWorld. | So who knows more about the rumors that Amiga Inc has been bought by somebody (no clue who), not Friend, paying off the debt and probably wanting to do something with the trademarks. Allegedly jumping on the "mini" console/retro computer train...

How do you know it's not Friend? _________________ Sometimes we give people a lot of credit just because they're writing nice sentences even if it isn't adding up to much. |

I remember when Amiga meant excitement, innovation, multitasking (before the word itself was invented) outstanding graphics, full score synthesized music, raw power, rampant imagination and world wide creativity.
Not empty promises, insipid marketing gimmicks, and boring tag lines.
Ahh the sadness of the fall season, only to be interrupted by the joyous crunching of the unwrapping of Christmas gifts that would reveal the latest and greatest from C=.Last edited by Nonefornow on 06-Nov-2018 at 04:11 PM.

Ravi (from Retro hour) told me chances are small.
He work a short time for Friend and so does Dan still do. They say Friend tries to avoid Amiga association (outside our community in the real world) as much as possible so investing in Ainc is nothing they would do. |

What I have been told (by someone who claims to know who is behind the domain) is that amiga.com cannot be used for anything Amiga-related while Hyperion Entertainment keeps attacking the Amiga companies, because the domain too could be at risk. That's why it only has boring taglines.
Maybe we should start a poll and ask whether it should be used for pron?

... it was more likely to be from DCE, Paravision, Phase 5, Scala, Blittersoft or in fact any third party Amiga company when I got into the Amiga in 1995/96. I couldn't even get an A1200 for Christmas 1995 as the UK stock was so low? CD-32s were in great supply though thank goodness. The USA missed out on that beauty but by that time Doom was all that mattered to American kids _________________ "Art challenges technology. Technology inspires the art." Although weird at first, this could actually work for the benefit of the Amiga platform. Imagine such site with all profits going to software/hardware development. No other computer has so good name for this purpose...

Interesting. I assumed amiga.com was created solely to promote Blackberry games. I see now that once it was an Amiga site.
Out of curiosity I checked on Bill McEwen LinkedIn profile. He now claims to be working as Deputy CEO at Stavatti Aerospace since year 2003. A 3D rendered aircraft company.
