Yes, unfortunately that emulates an Amiga with a PPC card.

CPU speed is dependent only on QEMU PPC emulation performance. Now, WinUAE (with QEMU plugin) is far more capable than SAM460 emulation in QEMU (well, I was not even able to run this one under Windows...).

@pavlor

To run Sam460ex emulation under Windows I suggest you to download binaries from emaculation site, the official windows building binaries (at least for me) doesn't work.
I suggest you to read Qemu for sam460ex thread on AW.net, you can find the instructions and command line to start emulation.

In next QEMU 4.0 release the maximum ram size for sam460ex board will raise from 1Gb to 2Gb and there will be other ppc emulation speedups and fixes.

Due too much high costs of amigang hardware, in a world where could computing will be a standard platform, virtualize the hardware could be the best choice to support amiga platform for next years.

Today Qemu seems to be the best solution about that, I hope some amiga/unix skilled programmer will can help to emulate amiga platform even better.

@Fl@sh

Thanks! Tried QEMU3.1 and this one seems to work (well AROS has some issue with keyboard). Installing Linux right now to try some benchmarks.

Edit: Giving up installing Linux - using my preinstalled Linux partition on generic Linux setup instead.

Both 3.1 and 4.0 give similar result in dnetc benchmarks (integer performance)

Now benchmarks on my ultra-cheap laptop (Core i3-5005U 2 GHz)
OGR-NG:
QEMU3.1: 3,841,223 nodes/sec
WinUAE4.0.0 (UAEGFX): 3,477,030 nodes/sec

For comparison, A1222 (Tabor) 1.2 GHz: 13,837,837 nodes/sec

Edit2: For comparison OGR-NG result (without AltiVec) of Tuxedo´s Pegasos 2: 11,616,256 nodes/sec

@pavlor
what kill the benchmarks are the bad fpu emulation of qemu i know for sure ...
just for understand on geekbench 2 osx tiger , host my threadripper i have integer result like a 2 ghz G4, ram performances more faster than a quad g5 ... fpu like a G4 400mhz

@tlosm

dnetc is integer benchmark, I would use lame/blender to show FPU performance. G4 400 MHz is rather nice result, don´t even ask how "fast" is my notebook.

Completely agre with you!

Hope that QEMU 4.0 was really faster!

@Tuxedo

I managed to shoehorn OS 4.1 into Amiga Forever 2017 on my Dell Optiplex PC so I could play "Swamp Defense"! It installed OK, but the 4 layers of programming slowed it down so much it's unplayable. Maybe a new PC would be faster. I don't know the processor speed but all my computers are at least ten years old. I saved up for a Tabor, but I'm spending the money now on other needs, realizing there'll never be one. What kind of fool with unsold inventory of computers would introduce a new one that could do the same work at half the price? NG Amigas are professional programmers playtoys, not consumer products anymore. Sorry guys, I'm sticking with Amithlon (OS3.9).

Well, not much in integer performance and I don´t expect miracles with FPU emulation (not benchmarked yet).

@pavlor

Today in qemu all floating point calculations are done as on a cpu without an fpu, so all is calculated in integer mode using various algorithms.
I hope in next release, 4.0 version, will be implementation of hard floats (to use fpu) and optimised AltiVec functions (these are more interesting for powermac emulation).

Stay tuned!

I'm seriously thinking to sell my good old Pegasos2 and swtich to some standard PC...

I wondered for a moment if you were the person I sold my Peg2 to back in 2007. The spec looks very familiar (but then again, I suppose it would do as hardware support is/was limited).

Doesn´t seem so:

lame benchmark with AKsack.wav
QEMU3.1
0.2865x

QEMU4.0PRE
0.2947x

For comparison Sam460ex 1155 MHz: 5.8033x

Well...
finally decided to sell...I've created thread on AmiBay, if amyone interested feel free to look there.

Btw I really hope to can use asap a decent(or better a faster than on Pegasos2) AmigaOS experience on QEMU.

Dreaming costs nothing.

Hope your Pegasos finds new home and you will get good money for it.

Nice videos, but why dont use odyssey to open some site for example? Dont works?
Opening only apps wasnt enough to see if emulation was good enough...

Seeing how slowly it opens some windows (you can see contents being drawn) and how much it makes CPU load even when idling, web browsing would probably be too painful.

the slow down of opening some windows is because filesystem and devices managment. after the 3.0 zoltan did many upgrade at qemu sources . better sm502 and irq fix, plus many many more things fixed.
