Not strange at all considering that Broadcom owns MIPS IP and for their use cases it's "Good enoug".

I don't believe Infinion ever owned MIPS, maybe they had a licence for building them but there are others that have licences too:

Microchip Technology / PIC

MIPS is like ARM but not as famous as they are, they are licensing technology, but I have my doubt they can keep up with ARM.

Close, Imagination Technologies of PowerVR fame owned it until 2017.
